**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Part-Time Travel Trainer - Term-Time Only**
- **Contract: Permanent - (22 hours per week term-time only)**:

- **Core hours: 07:30 - 09:30 AND 14:30 - 16:30 Monday to Friday**:

- **Location - Tameside**

**Main purpose of the Job**:
To work with young people, on a 1:1 basis, with the outcome of helping them develop the skills to eventually be able to travel safely and independently using public transport.

**Key Areas of responsibility**

**Responsibilities include but are not limited to**:
1. To deliver travel training to young people on journeys to and from school/college in real-time (usually morning and afternoon journeys) following established travel training plans to enable them to develop road safety, problem solving and personal safety skills.

2. To complete route assessments to a high quality, identifying the safest route for identified young people and to then create the associated paperwork.

3. To adopt a flexible approach to the hours worked in order to attend work related activity, outside core hours, in accordance to the needs of the client and the organisation.

4. Liaise with Travel Training Co-ordinators / educational setting / parents and carers regularly to monitor and evaluate progress of young people both verbally and in writing.

5. To participate in and follow any risk assessments and maintain good safety procedures for students when out in the community.

6. To identify, risk assess and follow safe and appropriate journeys for the individual.

7. To work with the educational settings identified and liaise with professionals as appropriate.

8. To comply with all Health and Safety and safe working policies and procedures

**PERSON SPECIFICATION for the position of Part Time Travel Trainer - Term Time Only (Tameside)**

**ESSENTIAL CRITERIA**

**Hours and Location of Work**

1. Availability to work 22 hours a week over 5 days Monday-Friday at the times young people travel to/from school (approximately 7:30 - 9:30 am **AND** 2:30 - 4:30 pm).

2. To work flexibly where the need dictates and to manage own time.

3. To prioritise own work and to be willing to attend meetings/events/training outside of core working hours.

4. Ability to work remotely from a variety of settings to support individuals in the community, largely unsupervised.

**Working with Vulnerable Adults/Young People/Children**

5. Experience of working with vulnerable adults/young people/children and disadvantaged people in a person-centred way using person centred tools.

6. Evidence of an ability to make sound judgements and decisions on a day to day basis.

7. Knowledge of relevant frameworks, standards and governance.

8. Confident in making decisions for an individual including using daily assessments to make decisions around moving a young person through the travel training process and making recommendations when they are safe to travel independently.

**Communication**

9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills when working with vulnerable people, parents, professionals, colleagues.

10. Experience of motivating people.

11. Competent & comfortable using I.T. skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel.

12. Ability to produce high quality reports and other documents/literature including Route Assessments.

13. Ability to collect data, record both written and using IT and present information regularly to line manager.
