CNWL London Perinatal Service provide community perinatal mental health services in 5 boroughs, the Maternity-Trauma and Loss Care Service as well as Coombe Wood Mother and Baby Unit.
Coombe Wood is a highly regarded specialist perinatal service providing inpatient treatment and support for pregnant and postnatal women experiencing mental health and emotional difficulties. We support women/birthing people with their babies up to a year old. It is a 10 bedded unit which is currently commissioned by NHSE. We are working to be a Lead Provider Collaborative to meet the perinatal mental health needs of women/birthing people across North West London.
Our multi-disciplinary team consists of doctors, nurses, nursery nurses, therapists and support staff who are experienced specialists offering mental health treatment for mothers and support with infant care and development and encouraging the formation of lasting positive bonds.
The matron will need to provide nursing leadership and work closely with the MDT to ensure we provide excellent care to women/birthing people and their babies. Whilst the job can be challenging we provide excellent support and training opportunities.
The post holder will be responsible for the clinical and operational management of the Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) at Coombe Wood, providing strong and clear leadership in partnership with the clinical leads in the service.
The post holder will lead by example to drive up standards of care and practice within the service and to empower the nursing workforce to take on a greater range of clinical tasks to improve patient’s care in their clinical area.
Provide nursing advice and expertise in the management of complex cases and contribute to the development of stronger working relationships across the range of community services and relevant agencies and independent providers to ensure seamless provision of services for patients.
The role will encompass managerial, clinical, professional, financial and developmental aspects, requiring the post holder to work in collaboration with the MDT and the directorate management team and others to use resources in the most effective way, to free up capacity for clinical work and ensure optimum level of care is achieved on a twenty-four hours basis.
You will work closely with the Head of Perinatal Services to ensure this service is delivered in accordance to the service specifications.

Clinical Practice
- To provide clinical leadership and expertise to the inpatient mother & baby unit (MBU). Working closely with the ward manager, clinical team leaders and lead clinicians to ensure women either pregnant or with infants under one year of age are cared for in the area most appropriate to their
