**MAIN PURPOSE**:
To undertake cyclic and continual safety inspections of trees in Highways, Parks and Greenspace sites, ensuring databases are kept up to date and remedial works are undertaken to mitigate Health and Safety or insurance claims. Assist the Arboricultural Services Manager in the overall task commitment of the unit, and designated responsibility for the planting, maintenance, preservation and safety of all trees.

**SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
Systematically undertake safety surveys of all trees within Highways, Parks and Greenspace, Open Spaces, Recreation Grounds, Commons, Cemeteries, Closed Churchyards and Allotments within the Borough. Duties include:

- Maintain public safety by inspection and update of a survey database, including accurate plans and cyclical inspection reports.
- Determine the urgency/priority to be given to dangerous, damaged or suspect trees and or sites of high-risk rating.
- Undertake preservation work or associated works to ensure future safety.
- Secure public amenity.
- Devise and maintain qualitative control standards.
- Interview members of the general public and public service officers on problems and complaints associated with the trees and decide appropriate action.
- Compile technical reports and contribute to committee reports. In conjunction with the service manager with the Arboricultural Services Manager, update a computerised tree record system and undertake any necessary administrative tasks. Deal with all insurance claims within a set geographic area for trees at the request of the Director of Resources Insurance Section.
- Advise the Team Manager of any controversial programme works.
- Maintain a cyclical survey programme of the Boroughs Highways, Parks and Greenspaces.
- Prepare plans, working drawings and documents for tree works. Instruct term contractors’ staff on site in all aspects of arboricultural works. Oversee and approve work for payment.
- Operate regular close financial control of budgets and the scheduling of works including, estimates and out-turns within a set geographical area. Assist with the selection and purchase of trees and the purchasing of equipment and materials within an agreed budget framework. Assist with the cost control system for all works and projects, including finance spreadsheets.
- Take responsibility for all requests made to the London Borough of Bromley under the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976.
- To work with and provide walk and talks programmes and training for volunteers, Friends Groups, Tree Wardens and other groups for the benefit of the wider community. Represent the Authority in arboricultural matters at meetings with public bodies and volunteer organisations.
- Participate in competitions. Participate in the creation and support of ‘Friends Groups, the Tree Warden campaign and any other stakeholder groups.
- Participate with the wider tree team to deliver corporate projects such as new planting works, the team performance plan and one off special schemes as appropriate.

Any other duties that maybe required commensurate with the grade and responsibility of the post holder
