The sexual exploitation of any individual is unacceptable but is particularly aggravated when this involves children. The expansion of the internet, together with the use of digital data, and cloud-based storage has provided additional means by which child sexual abuse material can be accessed and distributed. There has been a year-on-year increase of reported offences and child safeguarding concerns. Legislation has been introduced to combat this abusive form of criminality, including that of extreme pornography. This is a great opportunity to join our Internet Child Exploitation Team as a Digital Media Investigator based at Force Headquarters, dedicated to safeguarding children and investigating these offences.

We are looking for someone who has investigative experience, ideally with strong focus on data and technology. Someone able to work with Investigators, SIO’s and Prosecutors on the technological elements of cases and the preparation and presentation of evidence.

We are looking for someone who will work with Investigators to develop, set and maintain Technology and Data Strategies in cases involving Child Sexual Abuse Material. The ICET DMI will provide specialist advice and practical support to those managing live investigations by gathering intelligence and providing proactive and reactive support to Investigators.

If you have a good understanding of data and technology, and the skills or experience of working with investigators and safeguarding children, then we want to hear from you.

As the successful applicant, you will attend crime scenes and implement a Digital Strategy to maximise opportunities to identify, examine, preserve and collect digital evidence relating to the sexual exploitation and abuse of children, as well as having a sound understanding of child safeguarding processes.

You will identify investigative opportunities which might indicate children are at immediate risk of harm, as well as working with internal and external partners to enable urgent child safeguarding matters to be dealt with at the earliest opportunity. Your work is key to safeguarding children and bringing offenders to justice.

You must be highly motivated and demonstrate the flexibility required to work within the dynamic and demanding environment of the ICE Team, and you must be prepared to undergo and attain management level vetting.

Research shows that officers and staff working within ICET are likely to encounter distressing images, situations and investigations. You will be supported and encouraged to engage with current wellbeing guidance to ensure your own, and your colleagues, wellbeing is maintained.
