Eureka are looking for a Senior Technician to maintain all essential equipment, assist with the development of galleries and exhibits and reporting on the performance of essential systems including energy management.

**Main responsibility areas**:
**Maintenance**

Maintaining the following to achieve the highest standards of safety and operation:

- All grassed areas kept cut and tidy.
- Grounds, path’s, roads, flowerbeds, sand pit and any other areas are prepared properly, kept free of obstructions and are safe to use.
- Manage a programme of planting, mowing and other activity to ensure that external areas present a high standard to visitors.

**Monitoring, testing and reporting.**- Monitoring all plant and lawn growth, adjusting schedules to ensure standards are maintained. Adjusting workload to reflect the seasonal requirements - gritting in winter, leaves pick up in autumn, composting grass cuttings.
- Monitoring the condition and numbers of consumables/spares - ordering and collecting them as required and within agreed budgetary limits.
- Ensuring any fuels are stored on site in a safe manner and in keeping with government legislation.
- Monitoring the performance of the work performed by on-site contractors to ensure it meets Eureka’s standards.
- Ensuring the sand pit is kept to agreed levels and cleanliness.
- Ensuring that potholes are repaired in house if possible or reported for external repair.

**Security**
- Supervise, support and monitor the provision of internal security on the grounds.
- Monitoring CCTV and responding to security issues.
- Contacting management and the police as required.
- Carrying out site security and safety patrols.
- Completing relevant documentation relating to daily tasks and incidents.

**Documentation**
- Keeping accurate, up-to-date records of faults on grounds equipment.
- Entering the results of servicing are noted and recording system failures.
- Maintaining documentation showing dates of servicing, parts replacement, testing before use.
- Ensuring PPE is available and monitored before any use of grounds equipment.
- Correct record keeping relating to petrol and other fuel storage.
- Maintenace of equipment storage space.
- Recording of all ground's supplies - paving stones, cold tarmac, gravel, plants, fertilizer, weed killer, manual tools etc.
- Maintaining the Faults Reporting System and updating as necessary.

**Customer Service**
- Delivering a consistently high level of customer service.
- Reviewing the grounds to ensure the customers first impression of Eureka is of a high standard.

**Leadership and support**
- Supervising the work of the site staff and on-site contractors to ensure the available resources are delivered efficiently.
- Line manager of site assistants - covering holidays, training, rota’s activity sheets
- Providing specialist training for other staff.
- Offering advice and support to the site team - giving clear instructions on daily, weekly and monthly tasks.
- Developing and monitoring training requirements and record keeping.
- Work with Visitor Services and Play and Learning to ensure grounds are ready for use by customers.
- Support other museum departments in the efficient delivery of programmes, and events.

**Health and Safety**
- Assisting with the provision of a healthy and safe site.
- Working and ensuring that staff and contractors work within the current relevant regulations.
- Monitoring and developing safety systems, CoSHH, risk assessments and permits.
- Ensuring any staff using site equipment have undertaken the required training and are competent in the operation of equipment.

**General**
- Any other duties as may be reasonably expected of the Head Groundkeeper.

**Special features**
- Contributing to a seven-day rota
- Weekend and some Bank Holiday work required.
- Occasional overtime as required.
- Standby to the technical team as required.

**Details of Education required, and qualifications neede**d.
- 3 GCSE’s at A* - C (or equivalent) OR relevant experience in a similar role.

**Details of special skills/experience/aptitudes needed.**
- An aptitude to develop management systems to ensure efficient use of available resources.
- Supervisory and management experience with relevant training
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to create systems of operations to ensure service and requirements match.
- Creating rotas ensuring grounds tasks are carried out in the correct frequency for the relevant season.
- Ensuring tasks are prioritised reflecting open / closed periods, seasonal requirements and cover for holidays / sickness are in place.
