Matron for Emergency Department

We are looking to recruit a forward thinking, highly motivated and experienced nurse leader who will champion a high level of professional standards and excellence within children's outpatients, continuing care and specialist nurse services.

As a Matron you will be highly visible and accessible to children, families and staff and will focus on improving the fundamental and essential aspects of family care. The role will be overseeing the children’s outpatients, specialist nurses and children continuing care services. You will be working alongside Consultants, Advance Nurse Practitioners, Ward Managers and Specialists' Nurses.

The successful applicant with have worked in a leadership role at band 7 or above. Training and development opportunities will be offered and bespoke to individual needs.

1. Set and monitor clinical and non-clinical standards as and when required, take action to ensure high quality patient focus service in line with operational plan.
2. Work in partnership with Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses/Clinical Leaders to ensure the delivery of quality care, holding individuals and teams to account for performance against key indicators.
3. To present as a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic role model providing leadership, guidance and advice on both operational, clinical and professional issues.
4. Ensure ward/clinical areas comply with national standards of cleanliness for NHS.
5. Empower and motivate team members to maximise their skills, knowledge and potential, with particular reference to the Chief Nursing Officers 10 commitments and the Trusts Nursing, Midwifery and AHP workforce strategy.
6. Lead service development ensuring the best use of all resources using effective benchmarking systems.
7. Work in partnership with ADN/Midwifery/HCPC, Divisional Managers and Clinical Directors to ensure national and local priorities and standards are met.
8. To facilitate and lead in a positive, flexible and strategic manner.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is situated on The Wirral peninsula which has a stunning coastline and beautiful countryside surroundings, with great activities for its residents.

The children in-patients ward provides care to patients requiring surgical and medical treatments. Family integrated care is supported in the level 3 neonatal unit, which comprises ICU, HDU and a nursery area. The children's assessments area which is collocated next to the children's emergency department is part of a new hospital build project. It is very exciting times to join the teams of the children's division.

The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.

1. To work with CD, ADN and Divisional Managers (DM) to provide strategic direction and professional leadership for the Division’s Nursing/Midwifery/Clinical Staff.
2. To ensure the provision of effective, quality patient services, within existing resources.
3. To raise the profile of nursing amongst colleagues and patients.
4. To actively lead the safeguarding agenda in own area, especially for vulnerable patients.
5. Contribute to the delivery of, and to take the lead role on, key service targets and service change.
6. Contribute fully in the divisional business planning cycle, identifying key service developments and in the preparation of business cases to support new developments.
7. Support the division in achievement of all key performance indicators.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a Enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 months.

As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.
