**Job Purpose**
To supervise professional phase veterinary undergraduate students (BVMS 5) participating in first opinion small animal clinical service, primarily at partner sites off campus, with an emphasis on supervising consultations at our partner site. Support the teaching and assessment of clinical skills by BVMS students and associated administration.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Teaching**
1. To take responsibility for aspects of the planning, organisation and delivery of undergraduate clinical supervision activities in small animal first opinion practice, as directed by the Head of School in consultation with the course leaders.
2. To participate in the supervision of practical work advising on skills, methods and techniques in both the small animal clinical environment and the teaching laboratories.
3. To take responsibility for the delivery of a range of assessment activities and engage with in the examination process as appropriate and provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support learning.
4. To contribute to the ongoing development and design of the curriculum, in a manner that supports a research led and scholarly approach to student learning.
5. To undertake administrative duties as requested by the course leader and Head of Division and to lead specific initiatives to enhance the learning experience and ensure the requirements of regulatory bodies are met.
6. To participate in quality assurance and enhancement activities, curriculum review and programme re-accreditation with the University and professional bodies to ensure high quality education provision is maintained.

**Clinical**
7. To support the provision of high quality care to in and out patients at small animal first opinion partner sites through the supervision of Professional phase veterinary undergraduate students.

**Administration/Other**
8. To undertake administrative duties as requested by the Professional phase course leader, clinical skills coordinator, Head of School or delegate.
9. To engage in such scholarship as is necessary to keep up-to-date with developments in their discipline and in the practice of teaching in order to provide a high quality research-informed teaching contribution.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1 Veterinary degree registerable with the RCVS.

**Desirable**
B1 Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
B2 Evidence of post graduate professional development.

**Skills**

**Essential**
C1 Expertise in small animal first opinion practice, corresponding to training and qualifications, and ability to provide expert advice to students, clinicians, support staff and external organisations.
C2 Excellent communications skills both orally and written.
C3 Excellent interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
C4 Time, project and people management skills.
C5 Ability to work with little supervision.
C6 Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
C7 Self-motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically.
C8 Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly.

**Desirable**
D1 Performance of scholarship in a veterinary practice environment.

**BVMS programme**
The School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine is based in the north of the city of Glasgow on the Garscube estate and is a constituent of the College of Medical, veterinary and Life Sciences. The SBOHVM currently offers a 5 year professional programme BVMS, leading to recognition as a veterinarian in many countries.

**First opinion clinical teaching**
This is undertaken in small animal clinical environments at partner sites in and around the city of Glasgow (e.g. charity provision (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals), shelter medicine providers (Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and private small animal practice).

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 7, £38,474 - £43,155 per annum pro rata.
This post is part time, 14 hours per week and fixed term until 21 July 2024.
