**Job summary**:
The Government Art Collection is seeking an Assistant Curator: Interpretation, with experience of working ideally in a museum or visual arts context, and an appetite for producing rich interpretation content about works of art in the Collection, for various platforms and a wide range of audiences.
This is an exciting time to join the Government Art Collection, which is about to celebrate its 125th Anniversary. This role will play a key part in the development of dynamic and engaging content for this anniversary campaign, alongside contributing to the Government Art Collection’s Interpretation Strategy and Representation of the People Project.
**Job description**:
**Interpretation**
- Engage wide audiences through producing text on Collection’s artworks for a variety of platforms
- Work as part of the Curatorial team and across the wider organisation to support the planning, development and delivery of interpretative material for Collection displays
- Research, write and upload texts for recent acquisitions and artist biographies to the Collection’s database
- Identify historically sensitive texts and review them in line with the latest museum practice
**Contribution to strategy**
- Keep up to date with best interpretation practices and ensure adherence across the team to the Collection’s interpretation guidelines
- Support the Curatorial team with maintaining and updating the Interpretation Strategy
- Research as part of the Representation of the People Project
**Additional responsibilities**
- Provide public tours of the Government Art Collection and respond to public enquiries as requested
- Facilitate library access for researchers and oversee the cataloguing of new publications
- Represent the Collection at external meetings

**Essential requirements**
- Awareness of current developments in interpretation and terminology usage in galleries and museums and experience of making complex ideas accessible to a range of audiences
- A high standard of written English, with excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills across different platforms
- An ability to prioritise and to meet competing deadlines
- Be a committed team player, able to work both autonomously and collaboratively

- Computer literacy skills, with experience using collection management databases
- Maintain a positive approach to problem solving
- An ability to communicate diplomatically with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
