An opportunity has arisen for **Sustainability Lead** to join our team in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. The Sustainability Lead will develop WAE’s approach in implementing our overall sustainability strategy, in line with the overall goals of the business.

**The role**

Responsible for developing and implementing sustainable practices and initiatives within WAE. This includes:

- Identifying opportunities for improvement, setting targets, and driving sustainable initiatives across all departments
- Promoting environmental consciousness and social responsibility
- Development and implementation of Sustainable battery manufacturing strategy
- Supports Group Sustainability reporting and disclosures

This role requires a strong understanding of sustainability principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

**Operational Duties**:
Lead the Sustainability reporting and Disclosures for FortescueWAE and the implementation of a comprehensive sustainability strategy aligned with WAE's goals and values
- Conduct Sustainability reporting as required by Company disclosures and listing requirements and communicate performance to internal and external stakeholders
- Conduct regular sustainability assessments and audits to identify areas of improvement and opportunities for innovation
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainable practices into daily operations, processes, and decision-making
- Set clear sustainability goals and targets, and establish mechanisms to monitor and report progress
- Identify and evaluate emerging sustainability trends, technologies, and best practices, and provide recommendations for their implementation
- Engage and educate employees at all levels to foster a culture of sustainability and raise awareness of environmental and social issues
- Develop and deliver training programs and materials to enhance sustainability knowledge and skills across the organization
- Conduct emissions forecasting inline with group requirements
- Partner with functions/business areas to understand sustainability priorities and guide development of methods/tools/assessments to support needs
- Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, NGOs, and government agencies, to drive collective sustainability initiatives
- Support the development and implementation of effective waste management, energy conservation, water efficiency, and carbon reduction strategies
- Conduct and support lifecycle assessments and analyse the environmental impact of products, services, and operations, and propose sustainable alternatives
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations including ISO14001 and FIA 3-Star
- Review emerging sustainability regulations, standards, and industry practices

**What we are looking for**
- Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field. Relevant certifications are advantageous
- Proven experience (5 years+) in a sustainability-related role
- In-depth knowledge of sustainability principles, frameworks, and best practices (e.g., UN Sustainable Development Goals, GRI Standards)
- Familiarity with relevant sustainability reporting frameworks (e.g., ESOS, TCFD, GRI, CDP, IFRS S1 S2) and experience in preparing sustainability reports
- Strong understanding of environmental, social, and economic issues related to sustainability and their interconnections
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing sustainability strategies, programs, and initiatives
- Excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to drive decision-making and measure performance
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage resources effectively
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels and influence change
- Proficiency in using sustainability software, data management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Passion for sustainability and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and society
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate teams towards a common sustainability vision
