**Job Title**: SHEQ Advisor
**Job Purpose**: To ensure that all projects adhere to the highest standards of health, safety, environmental, and quality practices, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and risk minimization.
**Scope**: Supporting multiple projects across the UK, particularly in telecoms and utilities, including high voltage cabling projects.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Providing support to the operational team during the pre-construction phase, developing H&S documentation (RAM’s) and assisting the project team when required.
- Production of the construction phase plan and associated procedures and documentation.
- Providing expert advice and guidance on all aspects of health, safety, and welfare to directors, managers, and staff as appropriate.
- Monitoring and researching new health and safety legislation and best practices.
- Regularly reviewing and updating health and safety policies.
- Producing risk assessments, method statements, and safe methods of operation, supporting staff to conduct risk assessments.
- Reviewing subcontractor risk assessments and method statements.
- Investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses, monitoring and reporting on trends.
- Conducting site audits, producing audit reports, and related action plans to address non-conformances.
- Creating and executing workplace safety programs, emergency response plans, construction safety policies, and job-site hazard analyses.
- Producing briefing material and providing health and safety training.
- Collating & reviewing Business/Contract SHESQ statistics in a timely manner.
- Providing reports, presentations, and information as directed by Business Management.
- Maintaining records to ensure compliance with legislation, company procedures, and contract requirements.
- Compiling CDM Health and Safety File documentation.
- Ensuring effective communication and coordination with various stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives within the SHEQ framework.
**Person Specification**:
- NEBOSH General Certificate, or equivalent.
- NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health (essential).
- IEMA Associate Certificate in Environmental Management (desirable).
- OHSAS 45001, ISO 14001, and 9001 Internal Auditor.
- 45001 OH&S Lead Auditor.
- Temporary Works Co-ordinator (desirable).
- COSHH risk assessor (desirable).
- HSG47 cable avoidance tools (desirable).
- Emergency First Aid At Work.
- CSCS Safety Professional card (desirable).
- HS&E test for Managers and Professionals.
- Proven experience working as an HSE Advisor in the construction industry, preferably with exposure to the energy sector/civil engineering.
- Solid understanding of the requirements of the ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.
- Comfortable in an office environment producing H&S documentation.
- Extensive experience within the energy environment/civil engineering environment.
- Effective communicator with strong presentation and report writing skills.
- Client-facing experience.
- Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations.
- Full driving license and willingness to travel.
- Ability to work to and meet tight deadlines.
- Good communication skills, including a professional telephone manner.
- Ability to liaise with staff and operatives at all levels.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office package.
- Ability to work as a member of a team, but also capable of working alone.
- High-quality standards, e.g., attention to detail.
- Ability to lead by setting a good example.
