The Community Mental Health Rehabilitation Service is a new and developing service that works with people with complex severe and enduring mental illness (psychotic illnesses) and their families within their local communities. The service is looking to recruit a full time Band 3 Occupational Therapy assistant.

The service will provide specialist assessment, treatment and support to stabilise people’s symptoms of mental ill health and help them gain/regain their skills and confidence to live successfully in the community - adopting a team approach to care delivery.

The service will support individuals in their own homes in the community, in supported accommodation and those returning from out of area rehabilitation hospitals

We promote regular CPD opportunities both internally and externally and support individuals to develop specialised nursing skills to work in a complex area of mental health care.

We are looking to recruit a Band 3 Occupational Therapy assistant who:
Has experience working with people with complex severe and enduring mental illnesses (i.e. complex psychosis)

Has experience of managing a caseload under supervision and to deliver therapeutic occupational health interventions

Is passionate about supporting individuals to achieve their full potential and maximise their quality of life

Is caring and compassionate

Is self-motivated and able to motivate others

Is a team player, as well as being able to work autonomously

Under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist, you will deliver therapeutic occupational therapy interventions with a defined caseload of service users with complex severe and enduring mental health needs within the community.

The interventions will be focussed on assisting the person to identify and achieve their agreed goals of Recovery. These will include interventions related to; meaningful occupation, accessing employment, assessing and promoting physical health, social inclusion, activities of daily living and mental health promotion.

You will be a caring and compassionate individual who has a passion for supporting individuals with complex mental health needs to work towards their personal recovery goals, whilst working within a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be involved in the review of risk, communicating any changes to the care coordinator and Registered Occupational Therapist.

You will ensure that your own actions support the equality, diversity, rights and responsibilities of individuals and promote independence.

You will work within agreed and established Trust policy and operational procedures at all times.

The postholder will undertake the following duties and responsibilities at all times demonstrating the competences assigned to the role:
Communicates with service-users and carers, all members of the multi-disciplinary team and staff in external agencies using a variety of methods including Information Technology.

Regularly reports and effectively communicates service-users levels of function and interventions care records and verbal reports to Registered Occupational Therapy staff members and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Relates appropriately with service-users, carers, colleagues and others - at all times maintaining professional boundaries.

Deliver agreed therapeutic interventions, in accordance with the care plan, to assist the service user to achieve their recovery goals including; improving activities of daily living, social inclusion, meaningful occupation, accessing employment, mental health promotion and physical health promotion.
