An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us at Southport and Ormskirk NHS trust. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic full time Band 6 Orthoptist to join our friendly team of 4 Orthoptists. This post is made up of 0.4WTE (2days) permanent hours and 0.6WTE (3 days) 6 months fixed term to cover long term sickness. You will be working closely with the Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Nurses, Ophthalmic Technicians, and admin and clerical staff.

The Orthoptic department provides general adult and paediatric clinics including patients from eye casualty, neurology, stroke and special schools screening. We have late clinics running on Mondays and Tuesdays till 6.30pm which you will be required to cover some weeks.

The Orthoptic service is a split site service based at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals with outreach clinics at several community locations therefore the post holder will need the ability to travel between sites in a timely manner.

Applicants must hold a degree or diploma in Orthoptics and be registered with the HCPC.
- Provide professional, high quality, comprehensive and specialised Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner for Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust
- Responsible for the Orthoptic investigation, diagnosis, management and treatment of complex visual and ocular alignment problems using specialised examination techniques and equipment, and providing specialist advice and source of expertise
- Accountable for all aspects of own clinical practice
- Provide clinical teaching of Orthoptic students, Pre-Registration Optometrists, Junior Doctors, Medical students, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals (student & qualified), Health care assistants and support workers in hospital and at outreach venues
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with other clinicians to influence service development and ensure quality care is delivered
- To work as an active member of a multi disciplinary team providing Orthoptic expertise
- Undertake audit and participate in departmental research
