Trainee Thatcher

Dodson Bros Thatchers Ltd is one of the largest privately owned thatching companies in the UK.

Due to the Company's continued success we are looking to recruit Thatchers and Trainee Thatchers to join our skilled team based in Kings Ripton, Huntingdon.

If you enjoy working in an outdoor environment you will have the opportunity to either further your skills or learn a fantastic traditional trade. Full training will be provided, though some relevant experience would be advantageous.

We produce a lot of our own thatching materials and are fully accredited Master Thatchers now in third generation.

Means of transport is essential to get to Kings Ripton, Huntingdon each morning.

**Responsibilities (will vary depending on whether a Trainee role or not)**
Prepare materials, like straw, wheat reed or water reed into bundles ready for use
General Yard duties
Grow and harvest your own thatching materials
Check roof timbers for damage or rot
Repair, treat or replace timbers
Secure bundles of thatch to roof
Complete training as required

**Working environment**
You could work at a client's home. Your working environment will be outdoors in all weathers, at height, physically demanding and dusty. You may need to wear safety clothing and use safety equipment.

**Skills and knowledge**
Knowledge of building and construction _(prefered but not essential)_
Be thorough and pay attention to detail
Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
Ability to work well with others
Flexible and open to change
Customer service skills

**Restrictions and Requirements**
Cope with working at height
Have a good level of fitness

**Hours**
5 days a week, Monday - Friday, 9.5 hour shifts between 06:00 - 17:00 (inclusive of 1 hour breaks)
You will be contracted to work 42.5 hours
Overtime available

**Salary**
Wages will be dependent on age and experience but good rates of pay will be offered.

For Trainee Thatchers, then the base pay will be above the age appropriate minimum wage.

For fully trained Thatchers, the salary can be discussed depending on relevant skills and experience.
