The post holder will be responsible on a day-to-day basis for ensuring a high standard of Catering Services within the Catering Department in accordance with Specialist Services Specifications, Performance Standards and Operational Policies.
Responsible for assisting the Assistant Catering Manager (where appropriate), with the operational activities within the Catering Department at Harrogate District Hospital including the supervision of all staff within the Department and all activities throughout the catering service.
A primary function will be to assist the Assistant Catering Manager (where appropriate) by monitoring and supervising all aspects of Food Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations ensuring that all systems and processes are compliant and in accordance with the principles of HACCP.
1. Ensure observance of Food Hygiene Legislation, Health and Safety Regulations and safe practices and procedures generally
2. Maintain a high standard of hygienic methods of work to comply with Assured Safe Catering requirements and documentation
3. Check goods received for quality, quantity and appearance and ensure the correct maintenance of records.
4. Maintain a high standard of quality in the preparation, cooking and service of food.
5. Direct and assist staff employed in the preparation, cooking and service of food.
6. Direct and assist staff employed in the cleaning of catering department areas.
7. Ensure that meals and other food items issued are checked in accordance with procedure for quality, quantity, appearance and temperature prior to dispatch.
8. Report to the Estates Department the need for environmental and equipment maintenance and repair.
9. Visit wards and other food service areas to assist in the monitoring of client response.
12. Undertake duties of a lower grade, as is necessary, to ensure the Catering Department operates efficiently and complies with legislative requirements.
