**Job Summary**

**Brighton College is seeking to appoint two Boarding Matrons, to start in September 2023.**

We have a fantastic opportunity for Boarding Matrons to play a key role in ensuring the care of our pupils at Brighton College. The Matron’s role is one of supporting the wellbeing of pupils and ensuring the smooth running of the House.

**Job responsibilities**:

- To liaise with boarding house staff on any matters concerning the pupils and their welfare
- Dealing with issues at the start of the day, e.g. Pupils late out of bed due to illness
- Checking registration data and assisting with follow-up
- Visiting pupils rooms regularly to check they are tidy and orderly, helping them develop strategies if they find this difficult
- Being a presence in the house when academic staff are teaching
- Making sure the pupils are regularly putting their dirty clothes in the laundry
- To liaise with laundry staff to ensure that all bed linen and clothing is laundered and returned to houses regularly and promptly
- Oversee the bed change on a fortnightly basis
- Liaise with the cleaners to make sure that they pupils are keeping their rooms to a good standard
- Making sure the house and rooms are clean and tidy for vising parents and VIP’s
- Report any maintenance issues that have arisen
- Liaising with the Health Centre when there are ill students
- Taking students to medical, dental and other health associated appointments
- Meeting with the pupils to discuss any ideas to improve the House or solve any problems
- Sewing for the pupils
- Printing of notices for display and maintaining the noticeboards
- Distribution of post to the pupils
- Collating all the information for the matches on Saturday and liaising with catering regarding any special meal requirements
- Collating Saturday activity sign ups and information
- Meeting regularly with the Health Centre staff to discuss medical issues/pupils
- Collating all the information from parents/guardians regarding exeat and holiday arrangements
- Being available during the day to chat to pupils (especially at the start of the year when new boarders are settling in)
- Taking and collecting cash to/from the bursary on behalf of the pupils or the boarding house
- Ensuring the pupils have a birthday card/cake for their birthday
- Helping the pupils to organize and shop for House events such as the ‘At Home’, ‘Christmas Dinner’ etc
- Keeping a key/code register for the individual room safes and ensure they are returned
- Helping with the general administration of the House
- Maintaining accurate labels for pupil room plates, laundry cupboards and pigeon holes
- To help maintain discipline with College and House rules and guidelines
- To liaise with the kitchens for boarding snacks and food rations to houses
- To help with the house lettings by checking rooms, reporting damage, and ensuring that the rooms are then ready for boarders to return
- Be present on Open Days
- Meet prospective parents when they visit the house
- Any other general duties as required

**Safeguarding responsibilities**:

- This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
- All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.

**Hours of work**:
We are looking to cover the following roles:

- Role 1) 40 hours per week, term-time + 10 days
- Role 2) 24 hours per week, term-time + 6 days

**Holidays**:
Holiday entitlement is included in the salary for this role. All holiday is to be taken outside of the working weeks listed above
