Facilities Assistant Porter - Full Time - Scheduled Weekend Work

D-HIVE has an exciting opportunity for a Facilities Assistant Porter to join our thriving team based at University Hospital of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust In Burton on Trent, Treatment Centre.

You will be on a permanent contract, with a highly competitive salary.

**Job Purpose**:
To work as a member of the Facilities Team to carry out a comprehensive range of tasks at the Treatment Centre (Queens Hospital Burton on Trent). Duties will include handling the transfer of patients, movement of equipment and furniture, as well as linen, medical records, post/mail and drugs internally.

**Key Result Areas**:

- Provision of high quality transfer service throughout the Treatment Centre.
- Respond to request to move/ transfer patients between wards and other departments in a multi-level building
- Timely collections, sorting and distribution of GP correspondence and incoming/outgoing recorded/special deliveries.
- Support with the collection and delivery of items and parcels
- When requested, support with the collection and delivery of linens to wards and other departments in a multi-level building
- Adhere to scheduled waste collections
- Movement of furniture between departments and wards within a multi-level building.
- To undertake general duties of a routine or non-routine nature, including domestic cleaning, basic safety checks e.g. Wheelchairs, trolleys
- To attend all mandatory training and other training courses as required.
- Assist in implementing internal procedures and review as and when required.
- Assistance and advice to hospital members of staff regarding transferring services.
- Collection and transporting of Medical Gases to ensure availability on wards and areas as required.

**Person Specification**:

- Good interpersonal skills to communicate with patients, staff, general public, managers, internal /external suppliers & contractors.
- Use appropriate communication skills i.e tact, persuasion where difficulties may exist e.g. language barriers, mental/physical disabilities, dementia when transporting patients around the hospital.
- The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and members of the public in line with the approach of a Just Culture and CARE values of the UHDB Trust.
- Ability to use radio and other communication equipment

**Knowledge, Training and Experience**:

- No formal qualifications required
- Basic numeracy and literacy
- Understanding of a range of routine work procedures and systems relating to the hospital environment and job role which require on the job training.
- Knowledge of transferring procedures, delivery routes, manual handling procedures, ability to work under pressure to meet response times, knowledge of computer systems & mail franking systems.
- Ensures that the relevant safety checks are made on all equipment to ensure that a full postal service is operational at all times,
- Ensure that the all mechanical and electrical equipment is maintained and fit for purpose
- To provide on the job training when required and to have a detailed knowledge of hospital layout and logistics.
- Undertakes all mandatory and essential to role training.
- May be required to drive trust vehicles and hold a full driving licence where required.

**Analytical and Judgemental Skills**:

- Escalate any service failures in relation to service response times

**Physical Skills**:

- Standard keyboard skills for e mail communication.
- Skills to operate /communicate via the radio used during the course of duties.
- Moves/handles patients on trolleys, beds and wheel chairs. Transports deceased patients to the mortuary. Moves waste carts, linen/food trolleys, hospital equipment/furniture.
- Physically fit and able to perform set tasks, frequent requirement to exert moderate physical effort for several periods, manipulate trolleys, wheel chairs, pull and push waste carts when required.

**Responsibilities for Patient / Client Care**:

- Provides a direct courteous service to patients where applicable
- To ensure all mail is secure and moved in a safe way ensuring complete confidentiality at all times.
- Adhere to hospital safe moving and handling procedures when transporting patients.

Pay: £12.00 per hour
