**JOB SUMMARY**

The team is divided into 3 pillars which support the Buying, Supply Chain and Retail functions of our business. Our key internal stakeholders include buying operations, business assurance, claims, customer service, distribution, global compliance, IT, legal, marketing, product development, quality assurance, sourcing and store operations. Our external stakeholders include regulators, test labs and vendors.
You will support the Merchandise Compliance Manager in the delivery of the service and be responsible for implementing the Merchandise Compliance strategy, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve compliance, respond to challenges and minimise risk across our European business.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Implement TJX Europe’s Merchandise Compliance strategy and contribute towards effective policies, standards and guidance to ensure compliance with TJX standards.
- Support the Merchandise Compliance Manager in the effective delivery of an internal Trading Standards service.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in order to improve compliance, facilitate solutions and share best practice.
- Identify and research changes to legislation, standards and best practice and assess the potential impact on the business.
- Provide specialist advice and support to a wide range of internal stakeholders to ensure products are supplied in accordance with TJX standards.
- Review food and non-food product labels to ensure they comply with TJX standards and provide helpful feedback to internal and external stakeholders.
- Review technical documentation including test reports, safety assessments and Declarations of Conformity to ensure products are supplied in accordance with TJX standards.
- Develop training materials and deliver compliance training to a range of internal stakeholders.

**JOB DESCRIPTION**
- Produce and update a wide range of guidance materials for internal and external stakeholders (e.g. One Minute Guides, 1-pagers and detailed guides).
- Contribute towards a wide range of projects by providing specialist advice and support to improve compliance in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
- Investigate safety and quality complaints in partnership with internal and external stakeholders and recommend an appropriate course of action.
- Conduct risk assessments in relation to unsafe and non-compliant products and provide specialist advice to the Merchandise Compliance Manager.
- Support the business to take corrective action in relation to unsafe and non-compliant products, including recalls, withdrawals, product testing and notifying authorities.
- Support the business to manage enforcement challenges (e.g. non-compliant products, import delays, underage sales, criminal investigations).
- Respond to correspondence from Trading Standards and other regulators and investigate the causes of non-compliance to prevent reoccurrence.
- Partner with and support internal stakeholders to manage difficult customer complaints to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Lead and co-ordinate merchandise audits to ensure products meet TJX standards and investigate and rectify any non-compliances.
- Support in the training and development of the Merchandise Compliance team and colleagues in the wider Risk function.
- Deputise for the Merchandise Compliance Manager as required.

**KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE**
- Up-to-date knowledge of UK and EU Trading Standards legislation (and ideally hold a recognised qualification in Trading Standards, product safety or market surveillance)
- Able to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Previous experience of either a fast-paced retail environment, providing compliance advice to retailers or working in regulatory enforcement will be advantageous
- Able to communicate complex legal requirements in a clear and concise manner, both verbally and in writing, to a wide range of people
- Able to assess risk and support commercial decision-making
- Able to manage robust or challenging conversations
- Strong organisation skills in order to manage a busy workload
- Strong attention to detail
- German and/or Polish language skills required
