Oriel Ministries is a Christian charity working with young people in Launceston, but reaching out to areas across Cornwall and Devon. We work hard to ensure our provision for youth is of the highest standard and were thrilled recently to be awarded '5: very good' in our Loft kitchen. The role is initially for 2.5 hours per week, 3-5.30pm, on Thursdays during term time. Availability to work during half terms when required would be helpful. There may be additional hours available on Tuesday afternoons with the potential growth of other clubs. **Specific Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Measuring out ingredients and following processes required by a recipe.
- Prepping various ingredients such as meats and vegetables.
- Cooking burgers, fries etc and ensuring appropriate temperature checks are in place to ensure food is safely cooked.
- Using kitchen equipment such as deep fat friers, griddle etc safely.
- Serving food and drinks to customers.
- Cleaning up the kitchen space after cooking each meal and ensuring the prep area and kitchen are cleaned and sanitised at the end of each shift. This includes mopping the kitchen floor on a Thursday.
- Emptying the kitchen bin and placing bagged contents in the wheelie-bins.
- Maintaining a pantry record and informing person-in-charge of need.
- Rotating stock items as per established procedures.
**Job Specific Health and Safety / PPE**:
- Oriel Ministries will provide you with an apron and hair covering to wear when working in the kitchen.
- If you have long hair, please ensure this is tied back.
- Please ensure you wear adequate footwear for a kitchen environment.
- If equipment is broken or ceases to work, please remove from use, complete the relevant forms and pass this to the person-in-charge.
**General Responsibilities**
- Attend pre-session prayer time as part of the Team.
- Enter fully into Oriel Ministries’ team life, including team building activities, training and other events.
**Person Specification - Essential**:
- Character: A willingness to work within and show respect for others in a Christian Organisation.
- Personal Qualities: A passion for youth; cheerful, friendly and outgoing.
- Qualifications: You will be required to hold a current Food Hygiene and Safety Certificate (Level 2) - Additional training will be given.
- Safeguarding: A working understanding of safeguarding children and young people. He or she must also be willing to positively challenge discriminatory behaviour.
- Commitment to further training.
- Good time management skills.
**Person Specification - Desirable**:
- Christian Character: A committed Christian who recognises Jesus as their Lord and Saviour; assent to the Evangelical Statement of Faith and the aims of Oriel Ministries. A pastoral heart and a desire to see young people reached and grow in their relationship with Christ.
- Experience of running a commercial kitchen
- Qualifications in Food Allergies and Intolerances
**Notes**:
- This job description is not exhaustive and amendments and additions may be required in line with future organisational changes.
- Whilst the role is currently for a total of 2.5 hours each week, there may be opportunities for further hours in the future.
- The role is primarily that of a cook, however in a small charity there may be occasions when you will be asked to take orders, speak with young people etc. Training on the use of the till will be given.
- If on any occasion, a club is unable to run, you will be required to use the time for a deep clean instead.
- Staff are encouraged to support fundraising or other-sponsored events during the year.
