Band 4 Library Assistant
Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust’s library service plays an important role in supporting clinical governance, evidence-based healthcare, lifelong learning, and research within the Trust as well as supporting undergraduate and postgraduate education.
The library assistant will work as part of the library team providing support for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the library. The postholder will provide a first point of contact at the library counter carrying out the library procedures and duties.
This position is fixed term and would therefore offer an excellent developmental opportunity, delivering evidence-based knowledge services and resources to a range of functions, clinical specialties and user groups, in a mental health setting.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the library counter, providing a general library service to multi-disciplinary user groups. This will include book/DVD loans, ICT support (assisting with computer use, scanning and photocopying), and responding to queries relating to information resources and general enquiries.
The post holder will help to deliver the interlibrary loan / document supply service; support collection management by cataloguing and weeding library stock; provide advice to users on library services and resources, participate in the mediated evidence search service; and contribute to the effective promotion and marketing of the knowledge and library service.
Based primarily at the Uffculme Centre, the role may include some cross-site working or travel to other Trust sites. The position will involve some lone working.
Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation.
Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community. If you are looking for a place to belong, where you can make a real difference to people’s lives, join our team where our warm welcome is waiting for you.
