**Job Overview**

We are currently recruiting for Press Assistant to join our passionate and driven team based at our client’s site in Great Cambridge Road, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. The Press Assistant’s primary role will be to assist Newsprinters in maintaining a highlevel of cleaning and maintenance within the Press Hall. The Press Assistant is also expected to work flexibly to support reasonable requests across departments to meet the needs of the business.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Ensure that departmental quality standards are achieved
- Ensure that all standards meet company, legal and ethical requirements
- Accurately and legibly complete all documentation, including sign off procedures associated with tasks
- Control the usage of all consumable items and minimise waste
- Keep area and machines clean and tidy and dispose of waste in the correct manner
- Understand, practice and implement relevant Health, Safety and Environmental requirements i.e. Safety Wear, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and Manual Handling guidelines to company and legal standards
- Any Health and Safety concerns are reported to the appropriate point of escalation and/or Newsprinters Help-desk
- Follow and complete all relevant risk assessments
- Keep the immediate working area safe and clear of any impediments, such as trip hazards, spills, etc
- Fulfilling all internal and external training courses including essential H&S courses
- Carry out general cleaning duties as required
- Clean associated press lighting
- Remove dirty PPE & rags from Press Halls
- Replenish all stock and spare parts in the Press Hall
- Complete folder cleaning procedures including substructure
- Clean surfaces, fixtures and ancillary equipment
- Clean web path track and drive stations
- Clean stairs, handrails and silver footboards
- Maintain all areas free of ink and dust following any production run
- Transport ancillary press equipment from press to wash room or engineering workshop
- Clean inside and outside framework of presses
- Clean and maintain the washroom area to visual standards
- Ink Duct: stir ink, clean blade / foil and report issues to Team Leader
- Vacuum all associated areas as required
- Assist Calibration crew when required
- Clean press decks with appropriate equipment
- Unit cosmetic cleaning
- Side frame buffing
- Clean all guards, blades and trays in washroom / stream room and check for damage
- Remove, clean, maintain and repair Rotoclean units and Turbos
- Clean turner bar nests & Superstructure
- Assist Press Calibrators with stripping out press units, completing deep cleans (4 couple at EC and 8 Couple at KN/BX) and rebuild
- Complete full print unit inspections and clean
- Carry out cosmetic cleaning as required
- Roller maintenance including deglazing (BX)
- Clean bearer rings (BX)
- Clean plate lock-up cylinder gaps (BX)
- Clean and oil plate cylinders and Teflon plate clamps (BX)
- Clean all bright and Path rollers inside and outside the press framework (BX)
- Clean ink and web detectors (BX)
- Remove, inspect, clean & calibrate all blanket and impression cylinder cleaning equipment (BX)
- Removing, replacing and setting of ink and damp rollers (BX)
- Blanket inspection and reporting of issues to Team Leader (EC)
- Assist with plating up and webbing up (EC)
- Removing and replacing blanket and impression cylinder cleaning equipment (EC)
- Removing, replacing and cleaning of PPL bar (EC)
- Cleaning of all Path bars (EC)
- Where required, assist in the Mailroom with stackers & strappers (KN)
- Daily 5S (KN)
- Assist with all other reasonable requests across departments to meet the needs of the business

**Skills required**:

- Flexibility - Ability to adjust work schedule as required to meet needs of the business.
- Excellent team working skills and ability to integrate with both Aktrion employees and Newsprinters Employees at all times
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills
- Ability to work on own initiative and take ownership for various tasks
- Good organisational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised
- Mechanical appreciation of equipment and moving parts
- Ability to work safely
- Ability to follow & carry out instructions as directed
- Ability to assist colleagues and share knowledge with others
