**Outline of Role**

1. To help in all aspects of the laboratory workflow

2. Responsible for ensuring all calibration checks are performed according to schedule

3. Following procedures in the:
a. Registering samples

b. Preparation of samples for analysis

4. Ensure cleanliness of laboratory by:

- a. general cleaning of laboratory work surfaces, floors, equipment and fridges/freezers when necessary and according to the laboratory cleaning schedule

5. Conform to ISO17025 standards by:

- a. following procedures

b. maintaining good cleanliness and safe working practices

c. bringing any quality issues to the attention of the Laboratory Manager

6. Informing the Laboratory Manager when new stock is required

**Key Responsibilities**:
1. To ensure that all laboratory staff are supported to ensure operations run efficiently to meet customer requirements

2. To prepare samples for analysis

3. Ensure the Calibration check schedule is maintained

4. To assist with relevant laboratory paperwork as directed by Laboratory Scientists and Laboratory Manager

5. To ensure good working practices across the Laboratory

6. To maintain a high level of personal and professional development

7. To ensure that all laboratory operations are in accordance with relevant QC and QA systems and procedures

8. To assist with administrative duties.

9. To bring any quality issues to the attention of the Laboratory Manager.

10. To maintain customer confidentially

11. At no time to accept any inducement in relation to test results

12. To undertake any other duties that fall within the spirit of this job description

- Good customer service skills
- The capability to write clear and concise documentation.
- Able to learn and assimilate new information and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Good level of written and numerical / data handling skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build relationships
- Able to work flexibly as required to ensure business needs are met
- Methodical approach to solving queries
- Good time management skills with the ability to work on own initiative, but understand level of responsibility within the team
- Excellent planning and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise work and manage a number of tasks concurrently
- Be highly motivated demonstrating good initiative and self-confidence
- Have the drive and ability to work calmly under pressure under your own direction or within a small team of professionals
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise authority and responsibility where required in a diplomatic manner.
- Willingness to undergo any further training to meet the needs of the company

**Desirable Qualifications**
- Advanced knowledge of SOP’s Risk assessments and COSHH
- Validation of results in one of the above disciplines
- Experience in dealing with ISO 17025 quality management system

**Salary**: £20,000 rising to £23,000 following successful probation period
