Overview of responsibilities Ensure good stock control and ordering as per clinical area.
Establish and maintain effective communication with individuals and groups about matters overcoming any problems in communication Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to the development of others Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area Contribute to the implementation of services Contribute to quality improvement Support peoples equality, diversity and rights Assess the health and wellbeing needs of people whose needs are relatively stable and consistent with others in the caseload Plan, deliver and evaluate programmes to address peoples complex and changing health and wellbeing needs Raise communities and populations awareness of health and wellbeing and the actions that can be taken to address issues Input data Participate in partnership working with individuals, groups, communities and agencies Clinical Practice ECG Carry out ECGs for patients who have been referred by GP or who are receiving immediate and necessary treatment from the surgery. Venepuncture To raise an ICE form in the correct manner ensuring the correct blood requests have been requested. Adhere to local guidelines on the effective and safe manner of venepuncture Adhere to local guidelines on the safe handling of sharps and sharp bins. Ensure blood bottles and needles are all in date.
Ensure clinical areas are left in a safe and clean manner. Keep up to date with new guidelines connected to venepuncture as required. Ensure maintenance of clinical equipment used. Screening Undertake opportunistic screening: BP checks, height, weight, BMI, urinalysis, smoking status.
Carry out New Patient checks and CVD checks. Undertake opportunistic Venepuncture Undertake NHS Health Checks and coordinate the feedback of information to patients. Health Promotion Recognise patients readiness to change in supporting their attempts to change unhealthy behaviour. Provide healthy eating advice to individuals or to groups, including the underweight.
Provide smoking cessation advice individually in opportunistic consultations. Provide individual advice to patients about increasing activity or exercise. Offer advice on recommended safe limits for alcohol consumption. Develop and maintains the Health Promotion material within the practice and the waiting room notice boards in conjunction with the reception team.
The collection and handling of laboratory specimens. Segregation and disposal of waste materials. Decontamination of instruments and clinical equipment. Reporting and treatment of sharps injuries.
Dealing with blood and body fluid spillages. Educate colleagues in adopting sound infection control measures. Stock Control Ensures appropriate stock control for designated area. Ordering done in sufficient time to ensure adequate supply for practice use Stock safely stored and appropriately rotated and disposed of as required.
Stock information system in place, expiry dates and running total. Emergency Management Is competent in resuscitation techniques to administer basic life support. Child Health/Child Protection/Vulnerable adults Recognises the signs, symptoms and categories of abuse. Understand the importance of recognition, observation, documentation and communication.
Is aware of safeguarding procedures, statutory local procedures and points of referral. Has knowledge of other practitioners and agencies roles. Understand basic legal issues around abuse. To undertake future training in Wound Management (after training) Perform wound care using aseptic technique.
Undertake uncomplicated dressings, including leg ulcers. Suture and clip removal. Vaccinations and Immunisations (B12, Shingles and Influenza) after appropriate training Administer injections under a Patient Specific Direction. Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and drugs.
Comply in annual updates relating to vaccinations and immunisations.
