**Bank Paramedic**

A vacancy has arisen for a Bank Paramedic to join the Stonyhurst Health and Wellbeing Centre. The Paramedic will be accountable for the assessment, treatment, diagnosis, supply, and administration of medication. The role will involve managing, discharging, and referring pupils in the school health centre setting provision of pitch side support.

The Paramedics provide effective clinical leadership, development, and training to operational staff, including new staff to support the delivery of a high-quality pupil centred service.

You will contribute to the development of an integral approach to the delivery of health centre care, including relevant stakeholders such as GP’s and external NHS stakeholders.

**Key Tasks and Responsibilities**

Clinical Responsibilities
- Undertake a range of Paramedic duties in line with the Health Care professional council and Health centre policy and National clinical practice guidelines.
- Assess, treat, manage, and refer where appropriate and convey patients according to the nature and severity of their condition to alternative care pathways.
- Responsible as an autonomous Practitioner to see and treat, where clinically safe to do so, reducing inappropriate conveyance and subsequent hospital admission.
- Ability to organise and manage the scene of an incident, such as organising or managing patients, bystanders, or other responding services.
- Modify and adapt working practices to meet the clinical needs of the patient in an emergency and whilst located in a rural setting.
- As appropriate, treat refer or discharge patients who access the health centre service but do not need secondary referral or hospital admission, where safe to do so.
- Participate in the development of health centre services involving relevant stakeholders.
- Utilise appropriate and relevant information to assist patients, parents, and carers to make informed health choices in liner with national guidance, health promotion and prevention agendas.
- Make reasoned decisions regarding initiating, modifying, or ceasing treatment or procedures and ensuring accurate documentation of these decisions. Being accountable and responsible for clinical decisions made during the course of duty and seek senior clinical advice where appropriate from the nurse Manager.
- Ensure compliance with medicines management. Ensures drugs and medical gases are stored securely and stocked in accordance to both national legal frameworks and Health centre policy.
- Make appropriate use of the equipment which is available.

Record keeping
- Use appropriate knowledge and skills when working with new staff to ensure they are trained in line with best practice.
- Ensure the prompt, legible and accurate completion of all patient contact and incidents, providing a full and accurate record of decision making in accordance with the Caldicott principles, current legislation, and regulatory framework.
- Ensure the sharing of information is always done in compliance with Information governance procedures.

Communication
- Communicate effectively demonstrating compassion, particularly when dealing with patients who may have difficulty understanding, for example young children, people from different ethnic groups or English is not their first language.
- Adapt communication style accordingly to overcome barriers.
- Ensure informed consent is obtained before undertaking assessment treatment or intervention.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate information when dealing with patients and their subsequent care is appropriately passed to relevant parties.
- Effectively communicate sensitive information when dealing with clinical incidents or providing care. An example of this is when handing over patients to another health care professional.
- Drive the Health Centre car and carry out vehicle and equipment checks in line with HC procedures and maintaining appropriate standards of cleanliness of the vehicle.

Personal development
- To be responsible for completing statutory and mandatory training and undertake CPD to maintain fitness to practice and adherence to the regulatory body Health and Care Professionals Council standards.
- Identify development opportunities within the health centre and take part in activities which lead to personal and professional development including undertaking Clinical Supervision.
- Maintain individual scope of practice and professional registration as defined by current HCPC Standards of Proficiency - Paramedics.
- At all times exhibit and comply with the standards of personal and professional conduct and performance as required by HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
