London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

The post holder will assist with medical device management across the Trust by contributing to a range of activities that include optimal procurement, device training, maintenance management, safety, associated assurance measures and record keeping.

The post holder will work to meet the technical, operational and administrative challenges posed by varied nature of our customer requests; in particular, supporting the delivery of the Medical Equipment Management Capital Programme, service contracts management and data quality improvement. This means using ingenuity, problem-solving and communication skills, alongside technical understanding, to deliver the technologies that often define services in our Trust. The role requires reflexibility to work across a number of workstreams as dictated by the demands on the service; and as a result this creates exposure to a number of development opportunities.

Medical Physics provides a comprehensive range of scientific and technical services to all of Guys and St. Thomas' Hospital Trust’s main acute and community sites. Applicants will be expected to have a genuine affinity to the Trust’s values; putting patients first in all they do. High standards of spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills will be an advantage, as well as some understanding of the modern healthcare environment. You will work for a team with great development potential and real capacity to influence and optimise processes on a local, regional and national level. At times there may be an expectation for the applicant to work at any of our sites in central London.

At Guy’s & St. Thomas’, we have a Values and Behaviours framework which is embedded throughout the Trust. It is part of our culture and by demonstrating these values, we have a shared way of acting. This impacts how we care for our patients, how we interact with each other and how we make decisions. To understand more about us and our culture, we would like to invite you to watch the following video:
The Clinical Engineering Section provides expert advice and assistance to a wide range of staff, senior managers and Trust Directors on medical device issues and policy. Clinical Engineering supports the work of Equipment
Managers in departments of the Trust and provides scientific and engineering support and training to clinical measurement, equipment management and device development. The Section both develops and supports the implementation of a Trust-wide comprehensive medical device management policy.

This post provides technical and engineering support to Clinical Engineering. The Post holder will assist with medical device management across the Trust. He/she will be required to provide highly specialist support to Clinical Engineering’s Trust-wide medical device management work, providing support for implementing the Trust’s Medical Device Policy and for initiatives aimed at meeting the requirements of the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts. The Post holder assists other staff in Clinical Engineering and works under general direction and guidance on a wide range of tasks requiring initiative and attention to detail.

While the post holder’s duties will mainly be in Clinical Engineering, he/she will be expected to routinely spend some time in the Medical Equipment Management section (MEMS) of Medical Physics to maintain skills and update knowledge of medical devices. Within MEMS the post holder will carry out scheduled preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing on a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and will be responsible to the Head of MEMS for these tasks.
