**Job description**:
The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly. Despite being one of the busiest motorways in Europe, the M25 comprises a huge, connected area of primarily wild verge that provides valuable habitat for a wide range of species contributing to their overall biodiversity value. Often these undisturbed habitats offer the only viable refuge for some species, forming an ecological corridor through urban or intensive agricultural areas.

To support the management of the tree stock on the highway verges, we are looking for an Arboricultural Inspector to join the Environment and Sustainability team. You’ll play a vital role in protecting wildlife & enhancing woodland structure, function and potential wildlife habitats whilst maintaining high safety standards for road users and the company’s supply chain of framework contractors.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Conduct annual walked and driven surveys of individual trees and woodlands.
- Commission and oversee contractors delivering tree work.
- Database management of tree inspection information
- Provide guidance on tree root protection zones on construction schemes.
- Contribution to the development and design landscape improvement schemes.
- Work with Landscape Supervisor to complete the soft estate inspections.
- Provide guidance to the supply chain regarding site work and tree root protection zones.
- Work with Land Coordinator to monitor third party tree works.
- Provide input into environmental assessments and the development of landscape schemes.

**Profile**:

- Proven tree inspection and management skills together with a knowledge of tree techniques and industry best practice.
- Holder of a current LANTRA Professional Tree Inspection award.
- Minimum National Qualification Network Level 3-4 in relation to Arboricultural Management qualifications
- Tree and fungi identification skills
- Membership of the Arboricultural Association or Institute of Chartered Foresters
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience working in highways environment is desired but not essential.
- Basic knowledge of mapping software (Arc GIS or similar)
- Competent in Microsoft Office Applications.
