- Job description- We are looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Biodiversity Technical Specialist to join our Flood and Coastal Risk Management (FCRM) Department.
You will work with our current advisor and have a strategic overview of our Flood Risk Management Revenue programme, in the Northeast Area of the Environment Agency. You will help the department to ensure the work it delivers is compliant with the relevant environmental legislation and you will also identity opportunities to mitigate the impact of our work
You will screen and provide advice on our FCRM programmes, plans and projects for biodiversity and geomorphology impacts. This includes reviewing minor civil engineering schemes to river works and dam maintenance.
You will need to be able to advise and help both Environment Agency field team staff and their contractors to ensure the work they deliver is legally compliant. You will also help advise the teams to work in the best way to improve the environment.
You will advise and help our major capital schemes to ensure our environmental targets are met.
You will work closely with our Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology Teams who also help our programmes.
You will be expected to have an incident role.
The team- The FCRM departments are accountable for ensuring our FCRM assets (flood walls, earth embankments, dams etc.) are constructed, inspected, surveyed, maintained and operated in a safe, effective manner to reduce flood risk to people and property.
Our field teams operate and maintain these assets in a flood. This role will be based in one of our field teams but you will be expected to work across the whole area.
- Experience/skills required- The team engage with the public in relation to the maintenance and performance of our assets.
You’ll be an experienced biodiversity specialist, with a thorough expertise and working knowledge on relevant environmental legislation and Agency project management processes.
You'll be educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
You’ll also have excellent communication skills and be able to build and sustain relationships and experience of working with a range of customers, both internally and externally.
Your excellent customer service, communications and interpersonal abilities will be complemented by your enthusiasm and ambition to achieve defined deadlines and targets.
