**Introduction**

Lewes Old Grammar School is an independent co-educational day school located in the historic county town of Lewes, educating children from 3 to 18 years old. The School encompasses traditional values combined with a forward approach to the education of young people, and it is proud of the family ethos and community it engenders. First established in 1512, Lewes Old Grammar School combines high educational standards and small classes in a caring, well
- mannered environment together with economic fee levels. There is an extensive program of extra-curricular activities running on Friday afternoons for Yr 7-9 and many opportunities for students to take part in music and drama activities.

Morley House caters for children from three years old until the age of ten, and is located in an independent building in a pleasant residential area of Lewes. The Senior School occupies four architecturally historic buildings in the High Street of the ancient town of Lewes. Here we educate children from the age of 11, (Year 7), until 18 years of age, (Sixth Form), and always feature well in the Sussex GCSE and A Level league tables.

**Purpose of Job**

Excellent time management and communication skills are essential.

Our school bus drivers drive a school minibus for the morning and afternoon runs on a rota as required. The school currently runs 17 school transport routes. Drivers may be required to drive on different routes as necessary. Drivers are issued with mobile phones, and medical boxes for emergencies.

The driver will be advised of the routes to take to collect the pupils in the morning from and drop off in the evening to designated points. These will be advised by the school and should only be changed with agreement of the school. The collection times should be followed. The school allows a two-minute discretionary waiting period for all pupils from their allotted times.

The hours of work are from 7am to 9am and from 3.30pm to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only. However, there may be occasions due to traffic that this may vary. In addition, on some days of the year the driver will be requested to adjust the hours slightly to accommodate a change in school day. The hourly rate of pay is currently £11 paid for 25 hours per week over 35 weeks of the year but split over 12 months to provide a regular monthly salary.

Although not a requirement, it would be beneficial if the driver was available with notice to assist with the extra driving to take pupils to sporting events or outings. This could be during the working day or at weekends and would attract additional pay.

**Main Duties**:
1. To report any incidents or problems with children’s behaviour to the school promptly. It is essential that the driver is trained in and aware of safeguarding policy and reporting procedures.

2. To report any vehicle, satnav or other equipment issues to the Transport Coordinator promptly.

3. To ensure the vehicle has sufficient fuel for each journey (fuel cards are issued for this purpose).

4. Ensure that all pupils are safely seated and wearing seatbelts before the journey begins and throughout the journey.

5. Ensure that luggage is stored safely and securely.

6. Ensure that all aisles and exits are clear during the journey.

7. Only using mobile phones in case of emergency or contact with the school and parents.

8. Speak firmly and clearly with pupils who are misbehaving, with a firm but fair approach.

9. Listen to any complaints from the pupils and react accordingly.

10. Not tolerate any behaviour from the pupils which is loud or distracting.

12. To attend departmental meetings, usually at the start and end of each term, as notified.

Undertake such other duties as are agreed to be in keeping with the general nature of the job.

This job description is not exclusive or exhaustive. Whilst every effort has been made to explain the main duties, tasks and responsibilities for the post, each individual task undertaken has not been identified. The post holder may be required to undertake duties that are broadly in line with the above responsibilities.

**Person Specification**

The school does not have a licence to sponsor migrants under the worker or temporary worker routes. Individuals who wish to work at the school will therefore need to hold or establish immigration status that allows them to work in the UK. The school is legally required to check that all successful job applicants hold the right to work in the UK before work can commence.
