The Integrated Passenger Transport Operations Team is responsible for the safe and efficient use of over one hundred minibuses used to transport people in North Yorkshire. The team comprises approximately 350 drivers and passenger assistants that operate at locations throughout North Yorkshire. The team delivers approximately 250,000 passenger journeys per year including 20,000 wheelchair user journeys.

The transport provided enables people to access schools, day centres, learning opportunities, supported employment and other meaningful activities in our community.

We also undertake registered Local Bus Services (transporting the public) and community transport journeys.

You will be responsible for the safety of passengers during these journeys and will ensure that the passengers board and alight safely as well as ensuring that any safety equipment is used correctly. Full training in the use of all safety equipment will be provided.

You will need good communication skills as you will liaise daily with passengers, school staff, day centre staff, parents, carers, and colleagues. Experience is not essential: however, some experience of driving minibus type vehicles or working in a similar role would be an advantage for this post.

We are looking for caring, flexible, team orientated and committed people to help us provide this transport.

This driver post is based in Northallerton, and it is for 31 hours per week on a full year contract (52 weeks per year).

All drivers require a D1 driving licence entitlement.

The work will involve driving Social Care routes, School routes and Local Bus Services routes transporting the public. This Driving role will involve split shifts for the Social Care routes and for the school routes but the Local Bus Service (transporting the public etc) driving work is Not split shift (The hours are normally completed in one shift with appropriate breaks etc.).

A typical (But not exact) working day on a split shift Social Care route or on a split shift School route would be approximately 07:30am-10:30am and approximately 14:30pm-17:30pm. A typical (But not exact) Not split shift working day on a Local Bus Service route (transporting the public etc) in School Term Time would be from approximately 07:00am to approximately 5:00pm-5:15pm (with appropriate breaks etc).

However, the hours listed above may need to vary to fit the needs of our customers.

The earliest start time for this post is approximately 05:45am and the latest finish time is approximately 6:30pm.

The Hours will normally be worked from Monday to Saturday inclusive (with 1 X non-working day, so 5 X days in total).

The role will require you to be flexible to fit in with Integrated Passenger Transport demand.

We offer a comprehensive training package including Minibus Driver Awareness Training (MIDAS), Basic First Aid and Managing Challenging Behaviour.

This post involves access to vulnerable service users and if you were offered the position, you will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS background check.
