**Position Summary**

This role provides actuarial pricing support and portfolio analysis across all the business of CNA Hardy (Europe and Lloyd’s syndicate 382) within the Actuarial Pricing function.

**Key Responsibilities**

Under supervision of experienced members of the actuarial pricing team:

- Learn about commercial insurance business and develop an understanding of the actuarial and data techniques required to analyse its performance. Undertake analysis covering all aspects of the pricing function. This will include collaborating with peers.
- Learn about and support the delivery of rating models, tools and rate relativities for all lines of business and regions across CNA Hardy, including web based pricing tools
- Support the pricing business partnering process by understanding the features of specified lines of business and developing guidance on the performance of those lines of business
- Extract, manipulate and analyse pricing, insurance and financial data to enhance pricing guidance and business performance
- Collate quantitative metrics including the internal rate monitoring process, management information, portfolio analytics and profitability analysis. Help to embed their use within the business
- Support large account pricing for all lines of business by collating, manipulating and analysing data relevant to individual accounts
- Support other aspects of pricing and underwriting support as required including
- Portfolio profitability and rate reviews
- Analysis in support of strategic initiatives
- Analysis in support of the business planning cycle
- Underwriter training
- Engage in predictive analytics projects with a pricing focus
- Work with senior members of the actuarial team in preparing committee papers and business presentations

**Skills, Knowledge & Abilities**
- Flexible thinking; an ability to learn Actuarial models and approaches for a range of standard and specialised products, and to combine account, portfolio and external data sources.
- Comfort in using data with an enthusiasm to undertake detailed data driven analysis and portfolio investigations. Ability to learn how to extract, manipulate, enhance and visualise a variety of data sets that can feed into analyses. This is expected to lead on to supporting future predictive analytics and machine learning projects.
- Commercial-mindedness and the ability to develop business understanding including insurance financial statements and performance metrics
- The ability to input into larger projects, including working to deadlines
- Professionalism and thoroughness
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with other disciplines

**Education & Experience**
- Prior experience in a role requiring detailed data analysis and modelling experience. Numerate work experience is preferable but a strong graduate would also be considered. Insurance experience is preferable.
- A strong academic background including a technical degree such as Actuarial Science, Maths, Economics or Physics
- Experience with data either through work or academic experience and a strong desire to develop the required techniques
- Experience of predictive modelling or data science is highly desirable
- A commitment to undertake the actuarial exams is required with the expectation of qualifying
- Strong IT literacy - facility with MS Excel and databases are necessary, use of R, Python, XML, SQL, VBA or data visualisation tools would be a distinct advantage
- European languages would be an advantage, but are not necessary
