Lancashire Teaching Hospitals provides Elective and Emergency Secondary and Tertiary Adult Services to a large population of approximately 1.5 million throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria.

We are looking for dynamic consultants who are seeking to work in a complex Tertiary Trauma Centre; the work is challenging but rewarding and the department is a vibrant and supportive one.

Royal Preston Hospital delivers the Major Trauma Service for Lancashire and South Cumbria.

The Anaesthetic Directorate is ACSA accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthesia and led by a team supporting the perioperative model recommended by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and we provide many tertiary services including, Neurosurgery, Interventional Radiology, Vascular, upper GI, major oncology surgery, maxillo facial, plastics and burns.

The directorate also houses a 34 bedded Critical Care Unit for all of the above specialties. Critical Care has an extensive national research portfolio.

Professional

To assume a continuous commitment for the care of patients, even if employed less than full-time and ensure, in consultation with colleagues, that adequate arrangements are made for leave and off duty periods.

To promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care, supporting professional activities and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.

Clinical

To provide an anaesthetic service as a member of the Department of Anaesthesia. This will be across both Preston and Chorley sites depending on Directorate service requirements.

To undertake pre-operative assessment of patients as appropriate, together with post-operative management and follow-up of patients in appropriate cases.

To undertake weekly theatre sessions as allocated of which a proportion will be delivered flexibly over each week, to maintain the high level of anaesthetic service delivery required by the Trust. These may include evening sessions, or, rarely, a weekend session (by mutual agreement).

To participate in an on call rota providing consultant cover for out of hours emergencies.

To undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.

To promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the theatre environment.

To maintain continuing education and professional development at least to the requirements of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

Support services for diagnosis and treatment, such as pathology, x-ray, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and specialist nurse.
