**Are you an established Head of Software Development, ideally with experience working in the insurance sector? Would you like the stability of a large corporate but the dynamism, excitement and potential for equity of start-ups / scale-ups?**
**If your answer to the above is "yes", then this could be the perfect opportunity for you**

My client are looking to recruit a **Head of Software Engineering** to come in and oversee **a team of 35 made up of Developers, Testers and Scrum Masters based across the UK and Europe** working on **industry leading software for the insurance industry** working with some of the biggest players in the industry.

You will look to improve the standards, practices and processes across the teams looking at Agile practices, coding standards, CI / CD / DevOps etc, have some architectural involvement in the tech stack and direction of products and will consider ways ofoptimising productivity. You will be overseeing the provision of opportunities for career progression, training and growth to ensure an effective balance of skills and experience as well as maximising staff retention.

You will be rewarded for your efforts with a salary of between **£80,000 - £100,000 (potentially negotiable beyond this for the right person) as well as the potential of equity** You will be mainly **home-based with the requirement to travel to one of their UK offices once a month or so and their EU offices roughly 2 - 4 times per year**. Because the teams you will be working with are spread across various locations, infrequent travel willbe an essential part of this role, but **they will cover the cost of any and all travel or accommodation to all of their sites.**

**Essential Skillset / Experience**:

- Strong commercial experience working as a Head of Software Development / Head of Software Engineering - 3+ years' experience minimum
- Technical Credibility - you must come from a hands-on Dev background previously and be confident in having high-level architectural discussions
- Agile / Scrum
- Coding Standards - Secure Code Practices
- Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) / DevOps practices
- BDD, TDD, Unit Testing
- Excellent Stakeholder Management & Leadership skills

**Desirable Skillset / Experience**:

- Cloud experience - AWS as preference but happy to consider Azure or GCP
- Current or recent hands-on programming capability could be helpful: C#.Net / Python ideally
