**Consultant in Palliative Medicine**:
Garden House Hospice Care is offering a unique opportunity for a full or part time palliative medicine consultant to join our hospice team at the start of a new phase in our journey and have personal impacts on our destination. This role is available secondary to a vacancy.

Over the last couple of years, the Trustee Board membership at Garden House Hospice Care has been refreshed and joined by a range of enthusiastic, new Trustees. In January 2023 we were joined by a new CEO, bringing innovative and inspiring ideas for Hospice development.

Under the leadership of our new CEO, the Hospice Management Board are leading the hospice from “Good to Great”. The Hospice Management Board, including the Medical Director and Director of Patient Services, are working to extend our reach to underserved patients, particularly those with non-cancer diagnoses, including frailty. To achieve this, Garden House Hospice Care will lead on an innovative and collaborative project, co-designing a range of neighbourhood based, wrap around services, in which patients are identified sooner and referred earlier.

The successful applicant will support the Medical Director in leading the Hospice Medical Team ensuring continued high quality care and also provide medical leadership to this new project with an innovative and ground breaking new direction in hospice care.

**Duties of the job**
- Lead consultant for the Hospice Inpatient Unit, currently comprising 8 beds, increasing to 12 beds imminently.
- Assessment of patients with life limiting illnesses in an outpatient or domiciliary setting.
- Attend a regular heart failure MDT at the East and North Herts NHS Trust to provide specialist palliative care advice & being the hospice lead on heart failure work.
- Work with the medical team to provide medical guidance and advice to the Herts Community Trust Specialist Palliative Care CNS team.
- Provision of specialist palliative care consultant level telephone support on an approximate 1 in 9 basis as part of the Hertfordshire Palliative Medicine Consultant on call rota.
- Provision of medical education including as a Clinical Supervisor for GP trainees on placement at the hospice.
- Involvement in clinical governance within the hospice to ensure provision of safe, effective & quality care.
- Supported to engage in research, with appropriate time allocated to such work as required.
- Member of the Hospice Management Board impacting day to day management and leadership and the strategic direction of the hospice.

Garden House Hospice Care is the Hospice for North Hertfordshire, Stevenage, Royston and surrounding villages, covering 530,000 people within the catchment area.

The main Hospice building is in Letchworth Garden City, with eight outreach hubs in Hitchin, Stevenage and Royston.
