London, United Kingdom Metropolitan Police Full time

**Job Title - Police conference liaison officer**

MORE TRUST, LESS CRIME HIGH STANDARDS, BE AT THE HEART OF A CHANGING SERVICE

Opportunities have arisen for Police Conference Liaison Officers (PCLO) to be recruited into our child protection strand within London’ Metropolitan Police Service.

As we strengthen our work in public protection and safeguarding, this is an exciting time to be working as a PCLO in the MPS. Working with partners to better protect children through improved multi-agency safeguarding is our priority.

This is a Band D role which is also open internally to Band D’s as well as Band E’s on promotion.

**Role**:
PCLOs represent the MPS at the multi-agency child protection conferences and play a pivotal role in the safeguarding of London’s children. You will work closely with the Child Abuse Investigation Teams as well as colleagues from partner agencies, including Children’s Social Care. The role involves conducting research using a wide variety of police indices, analysing pertinent information to include in a written report, which will then be presented at conference.

You will bring together and analyse, in an inter-agency setting, the information which has been obtained about the child's developmental needs, and the parents' or carers' capability to respond to these needs to ensure the child's safety and promote the child's health and development within the context of their wider family and environment.

You will consider all the evidence presented to the conference, make judgements about the likelihood of a child suffering significant harm in the future and decide whether the child is at continuing risk of significant harm. On occasion it will be necessary and appropriate to challenge other professional colleagues and engage in robust discussion to develop an effective safeguarding plan.

You will decide what future action is needed to safeguard and promote the welfare of the child, how that action will be taken forward, and with what intended outcomes.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Conduct high quality research and intelligence gathering
- Compile and complete comprehensive written reports within strict timescales
- Attending multi agency Child Protection conferences where you will be representing the MPS and challenging partners where appropriate
- Identifying threat, risk and harm to children and escalate where appropriate
- Evaluating and disseminating information gathered at conference.

This role does involve contact with the public. There is an expectation that all applicants are able to meet with the public and pass the non-contact Officer Safety Training (OST).

**Essential skills and experience criteria**:

- Organise own work to maximise team efficiency
- Willingness and ability to undertake and pass OST (non-police) on an ongoing basis
- Technical aptitude to learn to interrogate police indices and high level of competence on Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to write a comprehensive and accurate report, which can be shared externally
- Willingness to undertake psychological screening with MPS Occupational Health.

**Desirable skills and criteria**:

- Knowledge of PND, records management and other policing systems desirable.

**What can we offer in return?**

You will enjoy the kind of great benefits that you’d expect from one of London's largest employers. These include:

- Flexible working conditions
- Agreed blended working arrangements
- The opportunity to make a meaningful difference to London’s children, the Met and the communities that we serve
- Reducing violence within London

**Salary**:
Band D pay Grade starting salary £32,194 plus a location allowance of £1,721

**Location**:
Based within Local Authority / Police buildings with some agile working.

**Additional Information**
- Question 1. We are Collaborative - Describe a time when you have worked with an internal or external stakeholder to achieve a positive outcome.
- Question 2. We Take Ownership - Describe a time when you dealt with a high risk situation and had to manage a number of different priorities.
- Question 3. We analyse critically
- Describe a time when you have identified patterns, themes and connections whilst reviewing material
