An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Audiology Service at Oxford University Hospitals as an Associate Audiologist.

This is a key support role for registered Clinical Scientists and Audiologists, primarily for the adult audiology service at OUH. The post includes, under supervision, the performance of routine audiological procedures. In addition, the post holder is responsible for undertaking and managing postal and in-person hearing aid repairs, for maintaining stock levels and for coordinating the annual calibration of equipment. The role also includes line-management of Assistant Audiologists. This vacancy has arisen due to the current post holder progressing into a registered Audiologist post.

You will be working as part of a close-knit team to ensure the smooth and efficient running of clinics. Responsibilities include stock management and equipment maintenance. You will be a self-starter and able to demonstrate excellent organisational, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills. You will have good level of IT literacy with a willingness to develop additional skills in this area. A passion for helping people is a must, and you will be able to demonstrate previous experience of working with the general public. You will have a flexible approach to work is and be a team-player.

You must be either working towards a level 6-degree apprenticeship in Audiology (leading to registration as an Audiologist with the Academy for Healthcare Science), or be eligible and willing to register for this. Previous experience working in an NHS audiology service (or equivalent) as an Assistant Audiologist is essential.

OUH is one of the UK’s largest teaching hospital trusts. We provide a comprehensive adult audiology service including the fitting of routine and non-routine hearing aids, complex diagnostics, balance assessment and hearing therapy. The adult audiology service sits alongside a busy paediatric audiology service which sees babies referred from the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme as well as preschool and older children. We also have an Auditory Implant Programme which includes cochlear implants and Bone Anchored Hearing Aids.

You would be joining a large team comprising Audiologists, Assistant Audiologists, Clinical Scientists, and administrative colleagues. We are actively involved in training and have colleagues on degree apprenticeship, PTP and STP programmes, with all staff having regular CPD opportunities.

You will be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and may be required to travel to our clinic at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and other clinics across Oxfordshire. The department offers flexible working arrangements.

Please read the detailed Job Description and Person Specification for further details.

You are encouraged to get in touch for discussion of the role.
