Help to win business and support our customers’ critical needs

In addition to managing your team, you’ll be responsible for deciding on the best approach to win new business, ensure we have the resources we need to provide effective support to new opportunities, and oversee the direction and development of our proposals to customers. Following a period of reflection, we’ve identified improvements that are required in our commercial and bid processes. As Head of Bid Management you’ll land these changes and identify other areas to refine our processes all with a view to improving commercial returns and reducing risks. You'll be leading the bid work which supports the account managers in the capture of upwards of £240m of revenue each year. You will also act as an escalation point for a range of bid issues including pricing, strategy and governance.

But your vital work won’t stop here - you’ll be engaging with senior internal stakeholders and service providers to agree our approach to new competitive bids, and working across FCDO Services to develop solutions, products and services that meet our customers’ needs. We’ll also expect you to ensure that proposals are delivered within SLAs and handle any subsequent negotiations with clients.

Use all your team management skills as we generate and build new business

As an inspirational and motivating team leader, you’ll be ready to use all your influencing, communication, analytical and organisational abilities as you help us develop and manage our business. It’s essential that you have well developed governance, bid management and development skills, and be capable of working on highly competitive tendering processes. We’ll also expect you to be ready to draft, write and interpret technical documents, and understand the complex market we work in.

With an excellent understanding of strategic planning, business management and new business cycles, you’ll have good technical knowledge of management and financial accounting processes, policies and statutory requirements. A qualification with the Association for Proposal Management Professionals (or similar formal training) would be an advantage, and it’s also important that you have experience of line and budget management. In addition, any knowledge of our work and the products, solutions and services we offer would be desirable.
