London, United Kingdom Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Full time

We are looking for a Veterinary Trustee to use their professional skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide advice, guidance and recommendations to the Committee on all aspects of Veterinary work.

About us

Battersea is here for every dog and cat and has been since 1860. We are a leading animal welfare charity and over the last 160 years we’ve grown from one home in London to three rescuing and rehoming centres across the South East. With c500 staff and 1000 volunteers, we have cared for over three million vulnerable animals We also campaign tirelessly to make things better for dogs and cats; sharing our expertise and educating the public and policymakers about responsible pet ownership. Join us and make a difference for every dog and cat.

Our Board of Trustees (known as Council), Co-opted members of Trustee committees and Advisory Board members are a vital part of Battersea, bringing their considerable experience and skills along with real enthusiasm and commitment to these crucial roles to support the delivery of our ambitious organisational strategy.

We have a world class veterinary facility at our London centre as well as clinics at our Old Windsor and Brands Hatch centres with highly skilled veterinary teams which provide direct clinical support to the wide range of increasingly challenging medical needs of dogs and cats in our care as well as those of some of our UK animal charity partners such as Streetvet, Blue Cross and RSPCA. And the increasing scope and impact of our support to international animal charity partners through our global programmes work of our Academy, which supports the professional development of staff and volunteers in rescues and rehoming organisations and our Grants Programme means that we are gaining a wider understanding of different clinical challenges and approaches for cats and dogs in a range of international settings.

To further extend the range of veterinary skills and experience on our Board of Trustees and support our future development and growth we are looking for an additional veterinary trustee to join our existing veterinary trustee, incoming President of the RCVS, Dr Sue Paterson, FRCVS. To support our strategy and to build diversity in the Board we are looking for someone with significant, current senior veterinary leadership experience, either from a research, policy development or clinical background or with direct practice experience. Experience of direct clinical work in one of our current global programmes focus countries (Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Greece & Cyprus) would be beneficial.
