An exciting opportunity has become available to join a friendly team at a Medical Surgery based in Penkridge. This is a part-time role working 26 hours per week.

**Role**:
Ensure that reception duties are completed efficiently and adhere to the guidelines laid down by doctors and management.

**The work is of a highly confidential nature and no information, either medical or personal, should be disclosed outside of practice personnel. These are fixed shifts**:

- Mon 8.00am - 12.00pm
- Tues 1.00pm - 6.30pm
- Wed 1.00pm - 6.30pm
- Thurs 12.00pm - 6.30pm
- Fri 8.00am - 12.30pm

**Duties**:
Greeting and directing patients and visitors to the surgery in a pleasant and helpful manner.

Dealing with requests for appointments.

Accepting and handing out prescriptions, letters, forms and specimen bottles, etc.

Receiving and processing visit requests

Explain practice procedures and arrangements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover, ensuring any procedures are completed.

Advise patients of relevant charges for non-NHS services, accept payment and issue receipts.

Respond appropriately to queries and requests from patients and visitors.

Participate in the rota to cover annual flu clinics. Covering at least one session held on Saturdays.

Provide cover for colleagues during annual and sickness absences.

Making appointments

Receiving and processing visit requests.

Taking messages and dealing with them in the relevant manner.

Making telephone calls as requested, including ordering ambulances.

Follow the procedure to divert the telephone system as and when necessary.

Directing patients to most appropriate service using protocols and guidance.

Extraction of medical records for appointments, visits, clinics or as requested.

Filing of medical records, letters, reports.

Operation of computer for appointments system, etc.

Maintaining tidiness of reception and waiting areas.

Franking post and delivery to the post office.

Participate in the staff rota to cover colleagues for annual leave or sickness.

Ensuring the building is checked and secured before leaving in the evening.

To have responsibility for the health and safety and welfare of others in the working environment, to follow safe working practices and to comply at all times with the Practice’s health and safety policy.

Maintain good working relationships with other members of the practice/primary care team and staff from other agencies.

To identify training needs of self and participate in relevant education/training programmes.

To attend staff meetings as required.

To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time, as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the individual’s level of competence.

To deal with prescription requests every Friday 8.30-12.00

**About you**:
Self-reliant, helpful.

Open and approachable disposition.

At least 2 years experience of working in a reception environment or with the general public.

At least 2 years experience of dealing with the general public on the telephone.

Common sense and initiative.

Reliable and dependable attitude.

Ability to self-motivate, organise and priorities own workload.

Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense.

Excellent communications skills.

Enthusiasm and determination in achieving goals.

A positive wish to work as part of a team. An interest in the work of a primary health care team.

Willing to learn.

Basic computer skills and knowledge

Reliable and flexible, willing to undertake a variety of duties.

Able to follow instructions.

Calm and courteous when under pressure.

Good health and attendance.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 26 per week

**Salary**: £10.00 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- No weekends

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Stafford, ST19 5AP: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
