**Job title**: Early Years Practitioner (Pre-School)

**OVERVIEW**:
WUFA Pre-School and Wrap around is a large setting based in Woodstock. In Pre-School we have children aged 2 years to 5 years. In After School Club we take children from Woodstock Primary School.

We are a Charity run setting managed by a Management committee made up of parent volunteers. Part of our commitment to our local community and the charity commission is to fundraise. This is predominantly the role of the committee however it is expected that staff will actively promote and attend where possible.
Staff are also asked to have a “Muck in” attitude, we all actively help with general day to day jobs that may occur where possible.

On a daily basis the Manager of the setting is not in ratio, in each session there is a Deputy or Supervisor.
This is your first point of contact, then the setting Manager. WUFA has an open door policy and effective communication throughout the team is essential for effective day to day running.

**Purpose of the job**:

- To work as a Key Person and as part of the Pre-School team under the direction of the manager and Deputy/Supervisor
- To provide consistent safe, high quality education and care for young children which meets the individual needs of children attending the setting.
- Actively promote and contribute to fundraising ideas/events.

**Main duties**

1. To assist with the planning of the WUFA curriculum using the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum for guidance and Development matters.

2. To help to set up and contribute to the planning for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.

3. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely and building an effective relationship with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.

4. Work in partnership with parents/carers and other family members.

5. To advise the Pre-school Manager and Deputy of any concerns e.g. over children, parents or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary. Safeguarding is a priority at all times.

6. To show commitment to equal opportunities, diversity and actively promote British Values.

7. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulating play experiences.

8. To ensure that children are kept safe and that you understand when to follow child protection procedures.

9. To support meal times within the setting and actively interact during such times.

10. To actively participate at team meetings, supervisor meetings and appraisal meetings.

11. To attend training courses as required and to take responsibility for your personal development.

12. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff, that is acquired as part of the job.

13. To be aware of and adhere to all the setting’s operational policies and procedures, e.g. health and safety, fire precautions, Lock down procedure, dropping off and collection of children, food safety, cleanliness of the setting etc.

14. To ensure that adequate records are kept and updated regularly.

15. To promote the Pre-School to current parents and potential customers.

16. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Manager and Deputy, in accordance with the setting’s business plan/objectives.

**Person specification**
- Essential criteria _

1. Willingness to learn.

2. Level 3 Early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.

3. Previous experience of working with young children.

4. Sound knowledge of child development for children from birth to five years.

5. Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

6. Knowledge of Development matters and the Characteristics of effective learning

7. Knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures.

8. Good communication skills at all levels including Management and Committee.

9. An understanding of children’s interest based approaches to children’s learning and development.

10. Commitment to equal opportunities.

11. Commitment to working effectively with young children and families.

12. Friendly and flexible approach at work which facilitates the development of effective relationships.
- Desirable criteria _

1. Willingness to undertake further training.

2. Current First Aid at Work qualification.
