**Deputy Harbour Master**

**Location**:Kings Lynn, Norfolk

**Salary**: Training period - £48,000 to October 2023, rising to £53,500 per annum

**Job Type**:Full Time, Permanent
King’s Lynn Conservancy Board is a Trust Port with responsibility for regulating marine traffic, marine conservancy and safety of navigation within its area of jurisdiction on the eastern side of the Wash and the river Great Ouse.

**The Role**
- To support the Harbour Master in facilitating the safe and efficient operations of the port as required by the Port Marine Safety Code.
- Support the Harbour Master with control and administration of working operations and associated practices of the Authority.
- Deputise for the Harbour Master when necessary. Act as Port Security Officer.
- Train to Class 2 Pilot to conduct the safe movement of vessels from sea, berth and anchorage in accordance with appropriate procedures.
- To comply with, update and maintain company policies and procedures.

**Qualifications/Skills**
- MASTER STCW II/2 OR EQUIVALENT RN QUALIFICATION, WITH RELEVANT EXPERIENCE.
- Understanding of:

- Pilotage
- VTS
- Vessel berthing and mooring
- Ship handling characteristics
- Charts/Surveying
- Safety Management Systems
- Towage & Dredging
- Port Security
- Incident investigation & Risk Management
- Contingency Management
- Good communication & interpersonal skills; writing, time management and administrative skills are essential, with an ability to work under pressure and make decisions within agreed delegation of authority.
- Have at least 5 years relevant management experience in the marine and ports industry.
- Demonstrable understanding of the Pilotage service operation.
- Ability to input and adhere to set objectives.
- Ability to adhere to national and internal procedures.
- Ability to maintain awareness of own performance.
- Ability to make sound, rational and timely decisions, justifying them when required.
- Ability to identify problems, analyse and resolve them.
- To be IT literate
- Ability to communicate, at all levels, with both internal and external stakeholders with self-assurance and authority.
- Ability to engender respect and trust by consistently demonstrating competence, honesty, integrity and discretion.
- Ability to organise work, give clear direction and objectives, and make expectations clear about work performance standards.
- Ability to foster a team working ethos of cooperation, flexibility, mutual trust, support and open communication.
