Role and Responsibilities
As a Financial Controller you will
- Staff management of a team of 6 with three direct reports; Finance Manager, Wages Manager and Purchase ledger clerks;
- Responsible for timely preparation & review of monthly management accounts including consolidation of three active subsidiaries, and reporting pack for submission to the Board. The ability to understand every number in the financial statements is key;
- Responsible for review of 3 payrolls of circa 1300 people prior to payment;
- Ensuring all payment deadlines to suppliers and subcontractors are met;
- Ensuring the company is fully HMRC compliant, including review and submission of VAT returns/PAYE/CIS returns etc.
- Train and develop staff under their lead to achieve objectives;
- Liaise with other cost centres to support and develop relationships across the company;
- Identify areas for improvement and cost saving/revenue maximisation across the businesses, particularly with the Commercial department;
- Work closely with the Finance Director & complete ad hoc activities as may be required by the FD or the Managing Director;
- Key interface with external audit team;
- Create new processes and controls around all new business developments;
- Identifying and recommending improvements to procedures and systems, in order to improve efficiencies and profitability;
- Responsible for recruitment of replacement/new staff in the team;
- To champion a "team spirit" that supports the company values and encourages hard work and professionalism in an enjoyable work atmosphere.
- Data Processing
- Identify your portfolio/department GDPR Lead and receive a briefing on GDPR as it applies to your activities.
- Immediately report any suspected GDPR data breach to you portfolio/department GDPR Lead or Head of Human Resources (HR)

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Technical Competency Skills
You will have the following
- Highly numerate with strong IT and financial analysis skills. Advanced Excel skills are highly desired
- Ability to lead and manage a team whilst working under pressure
- Exceptional time management skills for both self and team working to multiple simultaneous deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Professional and confident with a 'can do attitude
- Possess good people skills
- Ability to liaise with all levels of the business
- To be professional and present a positive image of CCS at all times
- Experience in a role at a similar/equivalent level
- Work experience in the construction/rail industry would be beneficial

Qualifications and Certifications
You will
- ACA/ACCA qualified, minimum 2 years post qualification either in industry or audit
- Degree - minimum 2:1
