The UKAEA is at the forefront of realising energy from fusion, working with industry and researchpartners to deliver the ground-breaking developments that will underpin tomorrow's fusion power stations with the aim of bringing fusion electricity to the grid.

STEP is a UKAEA programme that will demonstrate the ability to generate net electricity from fusion. It will also determine how the plant will be maintained through its operational life and prove the potential for the plant to produce its own fuel. It is avery exciting time for STEP as the West Burton power station site in North Nottinghamshire has been selected as the home of the STEP fusion energy programme, underpinning an industry expected to be worth billions to the UK economy.
**Who are we looking for?**
Following the news that West Burton has been announced as the home of the STEP Fusion Energy Programme, we now have an exciting opportunity for a Site Operations Manager to join STEP and play a key role in the development of this site as a centre for fusionenergy.
You will be part of the start-up team that will initiate the establishment of an organization and prepare the site for a major nationally significant infrastructure project. You will work autonomously without direct supervision taking direct responsibilityfor the initial site works, playing a key role in ensuring the success of the programme.
To be successful as the Site Operations Manager you must be able to plan and efficiently execute site works, have an excellent attitude towards safety, be flexible and willing to take a proactive attitude to resolving problems of varying types as and when theyarrive, have experience of managing contractors and be able to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization.
Your responsibilities will be:
You will initially be responsible for the planning and supervising the execution of
- Office facilities development, upgrades, and maintenance
- Site characterization studies
- Site preparation and clearance
- Minor construction works
As the programme develops you will take on more responsibility for site operations as the site is developed and the programme enters construction and commissioning phases.
Additional information:
The role will be based at the site at West Burton with visits to Culham and Rotherham offices as required. There may be a requirement to work outside normal office hours to provide support to external stakeholder visits or outreach projects.
**Qualifications**
Essential skills, experience and competence required
- Demonstrable experience as Clerk of Works/Supervisor/Trade Foreman, on construction or maintenance sites
- Evidence of achieving high safety standards in site works, preferably with a nationally recognised safety qualification
- Experience of managing contractors to ensure that all contracted work is completed to the defined specifications, within time and budget
- Good computer skills and familiarity with all standard office and videoconferencing software
- Ability to write clear reports and a good attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills and with ability to influence and communicate at all levels
- Confidence to be able to question and stop work
- Strategic and innovative thinker
Desirable skills, experience and competence
- An understanding of modern project management tools is desirable and a willingness to adopt organisational approaches to project management
- Understanding of UK HSE legislation, including CDM
