Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine

**_'Children's Palliative Care in Scotland is an exciting and rapidly developing field. We are looking for dynamic and innovative clinicians to join our wider team. The posts represent an ongoing partnership between NHS and CHAS to enhance the delivery of specialist paediative palliative medicine throughout Scotland: a true cross system approach to delivering care. 2024 will mark some exciting developments in children's palliative care services, most notably with the launch of the new national PPM MDT and on-call service. We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine across Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This post represents the ongoing collaboration between CHAS and NHS GGC to develop specialist paediatric palliative care services across all care settings.

This is a substantive 10PA (inclusive of 2PA for on-call commitment) joint appointment for a Consultant in Paediatric Palliative Medicine (PPM). The post holder will be a member of both CHAS hospice services (including national on-call service) and the Paediatric Supportive and Palliative Care Team within the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. The post holder will provide senior medical delivery of palliative care to infants, children and young people with life limiting and life-threatening conditions within the children’s hospices, hospital, and community. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the strategic development of paediatric palliative care across Scotland, including the delivery of education, training, and research.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practice and be on the specialist register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview

**Objectives of the post**

**Clinical**:

- To deliver high quality palliative care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting condition and their families, across CHAS and NHS GGC,
- To provide expertise in complex symptom management, supporting ethical and clinical decision making, advance care planning and providing end of life care and bereavement support,
- To work within the established interdisciplinary MDT at Robin House Children’s hospice providing accessible and holistic palliative care,
- To support the development of paediatric palliative medicine services within CHAS in conjunction with CHAS Medical Director and medical/nursing staff,
- To support the ongoing development of hospital paediatric palliative medicine within the Royal Hospital for Children and further integration of palliative care into specialist paediatric services,
- To maintain and develop close links between hospice and hospital services to promote seamless care for children and families requiring palliative care input,
- To contribute to the newly formatted national paediatric palliative medicine on-call service providing a clinical advisory service across Scotland for professionals supporting babies, children and young people at end of life.

**Strategic and Leadership**:

- To contribute to the development of paediatric palliative care services both regionally and nationally,
- To support the work streams of the National Managed Clinical Network for Paediatric End of Life Care (PELiCaN),
- To represent Scotland at a national level within organisation such as Scottish Children and Young People Palliative Care Network (SCYPPN) and the Association for Paediatric Palliative Medicine (APPM),
- To contribute to and inform the CHAS strategic plan which works alongside the national strategy ensuring the best holistic care for the children and families we care for.

**Education and training**:

- To provide education and training in children’s palliative care at all levels across hospice, hospital and community,
- To support the development of sub-specialist paediatric palliative medicine training in Scotland and contribute to educational supervision,
- To support the specialist training of Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) and Clinical Nurse specialists (CNSs) across both hospice and hospital, and to support their ability to educate others,
- To collaborate with colleagues and key stakeholders to support the ongoing development of palliative and end of life care training across Scotland.

**Research**:

- The appointee will be expected to collaborate in clinical research that is related to service delivery.

**Clinical governance**:

- To participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and ensure resulting actions are implemented,
