**Salary range £37,336- £40,221**

Telephone : 01273 296169

**About the role**:
**The Youth Justice Team **provides an essential service to children and young people in the city who are involved in anti-social and offending behaviour. These are often vulnerable young people whose life chances are adversely affected by family difficulties, trauma and loss, substance misuse, emotional/ mental health issues and exploitation.

The Youth Justice team is integrated within the multi-disciplinary Adolescent Service, with access to specialists in mental health, education, family therapy, social work and substance misuse. Within the Adolescent Service, there is close collaboration between teams working with young people and their families.

The YJ team also works in partnership with wider social work teams, Police, Probation, Education & SEN teams, Health, Community Safety and the voluntary sector. For example, we work closely with Courts and criminal justice partners to ensure children are not unnecessarily criminalised and receive appropriate support to enable them to understand and participate in youth justice processes.

We are looking to recruit a motivated, reflective, creative practitioner who is committed to building trusting relationships with young people and their families. We are looking for someone with the enthusiasm and resilience to make a difference to children who face multiple challenges in life. Our model of practice is relationship-based and trauma -informed, aligned with evidence
- based approaches to youth justice.

You will need to have a relevant qualification (equivalent to a DipSW), substantial (at least 12 months) experience working with children or young people in a statutory setting and be adept at assessing risk and need and responding to changing circumstances. You will need an understanding of child safeguarding procedures and ideally have experience of risk management. Good analytical and writing skills are essential to the role, for example the ability to write court reports, assessments and risk management plans.

You will need to be committed to playing a part in dismantling racist structures and challenging racial inequality and all forms of discrimination. This is a lead focus of BHCC Adolescent Service and something each team is actively working to address through individual and collective learning and development.

Our service is committed to ensuring equality of provision and we are proud to work within Brighton & Hove, which has pledged to be an anti-racist council.
