An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Criminal Justice Unit based at North Kent Police Station. The Unit is responsible for overseeing all functions relating to the reviewing and processing of crime case files and delivering the wide range of case administration responsibilities and therefore the post holder will be required to have a sound knowledge of policing processes and policy.

This is a challenging role and there are a wide variety of responsibilities within the caseworker role, which will involve managing and processing first hearing GAP (Guilty Anticipated Plea) & NGAP (Not Guilty Anticipated Plea) case types going into the Criminal Justice System. You will be responsible for ensuring that these case files are submitted to CPS in accordance with local and national timescales and are compliant with the National File Standard and therefore you must have excellent attention to detail and experience of case file preparation would be beneficial. You will be responsible for the correct retention, recording and storage of case file material and digital media and therefore it is desirable that you have an understanding of MOPI (Management of Police Information).

You will work collaboratively with other Criminal Justice agencies and organisations, such as the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Her Majesty’s Court and Tribunal Service, amongst others. You must be able to build strong working relationships, demonstrating professionalism as a representative of the force, it is therefore essential you have excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will manage a variety of requests and correspondence from the CPS and Police teams whilst also chasing outstanding information and documentation, so your ability to be able to prioritise your workload is essential.

With increasing use of innovation and digitalisation of our working environment you must be comfortable in the use of IT, including force IT systems and MS Office packages. Due to the Unit’s ambition to ensure continuous improvement and continued changing environment, you also need to be open to change, embrace new working practices and able to rise to new challenges.

You will be working within a very large and busy team so you will need to demonstrate that you can work well within a team, supporting your colleagues and providing guidance when needed. We are looking for highly motivated staff, whom are committed to the force’s values and delivering high standards of service. Knowledge of Police Environment and Policy is desirable.

The department operates on a 4-week shift pattern. The shifts include Saturday’s 0700-1500 and from 0700 to 1700 hours weekdays.
