Belfast, United Kingdom National Trust Full time

A Welcome & Service Assistant plays a core part in providing experiences with fantastic customer service. You’ll support colleagues in the Divis Lottery Funded project (Divis: A View to the Future) to interact with visitors of all ages and community groups across the site.

Divis: A View to the Future is made possible with the support of The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with thanks to National Lottery players.

**Duration**:fixed term contract until 31st October 2026

**Hours**:975 hours per year. This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.

**Working pattern**:The 975 hours will approximately work as 3 days per week (18 or 19 hours p/w) including bank holidays and weekends, however this can change during busy times/events.

What it's like to work here:Divis and the Black Mountain offers a spectacular viewpoint for walkers seeking panoramic views over Belfast and beyond. Resting in the heart of the Belfast Hills, this mountain provides a beautiful backdrop to the city's skyline. This 2000-acre site acquired by the National Trust in 2004 with Heritage Lottery Fund support contains internationally significant priority habitats and species, including at risk peatland habitat that we have a duty to restore and protect. Explore this rich, varied archaeological landscape and discover how it is home to a host of wildlife. The walking trails through heath, on stone tracks, along boardwalks and road surfaces offer a diverse array of terrains to interest all walking levels with views of Strangford Lough, the Mournes and the Sperrins as well as Donegal and Scotland.

Through Divis: A View to the Future, our vision is to implement a conservation approach that enhances and restores this valuable natural asset, and to enable and support meaningful connections with the mountain for local communities to transform lives for the better. We know that this will only be successful if it responds to needs identified by local communities. You will support the project team by gathering feedback, interacting with community groups and helping deliver programming elements.

What you'll be doing:As a Welcome & Service Assistant, it’s your role to ensure that the welcome our visitors receive is warm and inspiring, setting them up for an amazing experience for the rest of the day.

Responsible for engaging visitors and groups with nature, beauty and history of the site, you will work outdoors in all elements, as well as facilitating memorable and interactive experiences on Divis & the Black Mountain. This is a role with variety; one day you could be working with a school group, the next supporting corporate volunteering or engaging people in citizen science activities.

Your role will help us understand the needs of our visitors and you'll be our brand ambassador, a champion of our cause. You’ll be responsible for answering queries and making sure visitors can find everything they need for their visit. You'll play an essential role in helping us grow support on Divis & the Black Mountain in a variety of ways including supporting volunteering and local fundraising.

You’ll deliver high standards of presentation at the property to tell the stories in a more engaging manner as well as the delivery of environmental and cultural engagement on the mountain.

Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. Working with our spirit of place you’ll work to link everything we do back to our cause and the on-going work we do.

This post is required for busy periods including bank holidays and weekends. Occasional evening work may be required. The role holder may need to spend some time lone working without direct contact with their colleagues and direct supervision.
