An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking to recruit a Level 6 Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprentice to join our friendly team.

On successfully completing this apprenticeship, you will be eligible for a position as a band 5 registered Biomedical Scientist (Agenda for Change).

The apprentice will contribute to the day to day operations and limited technical aspects of the service.

The post holder will assist Biomedical scientist (BMS) and senior laboratory BMS in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System (QMS).

The apprentice is expected to follow policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies.

Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics.

To participate in evidence based training and maintain a level of knowledge to fulfil this role through to achieving HCPC registered status

To attend tutorials and maintain your training records, study leave and HCPC portfolio and ensure these are kept up to date

To utilise the training and document management modules of the Q pulse system

To regularly report to the training officer and laboratory managers on issues arising from your training

To comply with the policies and standard operating procedures [SOP]

To comply with the departmental quality management system insofar as training, investigation, CA/PA reporting and fulfilment of the quality circles inherent to the ISO 15189 standards of compliance.

To conduct vertical, horizontal and examination audits relevant to the role.

To assist in the procurement of risk assessments, report incidents, accidents and adverse events to the appropriate manager.

To bring to the attention of your supervisor any difficulties or problems encountered in the performance of your duties.

To comply with the information governance policies of the trust.

Where identified to liaise with all users of the pathology service.

To ensure that problems relating to the clinical management of patients are brought to the attention of the appropriate clinician i.e. Consultant or laboratory manager.

To undertake other duties expected of a Healthcare Science Practitioner Apprentice.

**Qualification entry requirements**:
Must hold level 2/Grade C English and maths (GCSE, Level 2 Functional skills or equivalent)

And

112 UCAS Points from at least two A Levels (32 Points in Biology) or equivalent BTEC National Qualifications (Inc. suitable chemistry and biology modules)

Or

96 UCAS Points from three A Levels (32 points in Biology, not general studies)

Level 3 or 4 Healthcare Science apprenticeship

Access to HE course from a relevant QAA-recognised programme
