**Your responsibilities**

The role will entail a particular focus on supporting the development of Uniper’s low carbon projects including hydrogen production, carbon capture and storage and biogas. You will work alongside a team of fellow technical environmental and engineering specialists in developing Uniper’s low carbon projects.

**Responsibilities**
- To provide water modelling expertise and interpretation of model results to support the project lifecycle of new low carbon energy projects.
- Working closely with our engineering teams to advise and inform on the development of projects within the context of environmental regulation.
- Supporting the business in working with regulatory authorities in the development of environmental policy and regulation relating to new low carbon energy.

**Your profile**

**Essential**
- Demonstrable experience of hydrodynamic and thermal plume modelling of cooling water and waste water treatment plant discharges to rivers, estuaries and coastal waters in an industry or a consultancy setting using Delft3D.
- Ability to set up models on your own as well as run them
- Assessment of discharges to surface water using CORMIX
- Highly numerate with experience of software such as Matlab and python
- Collation and interpretation of riverine and marine data for desk studies and for input into numerical models
- Experience of specifying and contracting surveys for model calibration and validation
- Experience with Environment Agency’s screening tests for surface water discharge risk assessments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to describe results to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to present your work in a manner that can easily be understood by those who are less numerate
- Analysis and presentation of data and model output using a range of packages such as QGIS, MATLAB, PYTHON
- An understanding of estuarine and coastal processes
- Proven ability to manage a portfolio of work to cost, quality and time.

**Desirable**

Whilst expertise is not expected in the following technologies, familiarity with one or more of these would be desirable:

- hydrodynamic modelling as basis for water quality and ecological modelling
- an understanding of marine licensing
- siting of intakes and outfalls
- fish and eel protection at intakes
- familiarity with decarbonisation technologies such as post-combustion capture, hydrogen production and biofuels
- an understanding of climate change impacts and the implications for resilience and adaptation
- a willingness to develop environmental modelling skills in other areas in which the team is active, such as air quality modelling
