Purpose of Job:
1. Create an enabling cyber security strategy and approach that allows our products and services to be continually iterated, baking good security behaviours into our practice.

2. Support the whole organisation to build/buy/rent modern technology services which are secure but maintain the highest levels of accessibility; be a trusted source of advice.

3. Articulate the value of cyber security and security architecture across the organisation, working with stakeholders at all levels.

4. Oversee and mitigate the cyber security risk profile of the organisation.

Main Duties:
1. Provide a clear vision and policy direction for all information and Cyber Security activities.

2. Create an enabling cyber security culture and architecture promoting continuous improvement, innovation and agility in how services are delivered.

3. Responsible for creating appropriate and agile security controls and processes and leading programmes of improvement in response to changing security threats and risks.

4. Influence suppliers and partners to improve their technology and practices.

5. Create standards and patterns for complex, interdependent services, making technology choices and trade-offs. Give advice across whole business areas, making complex information simple to give a blueprint that teams can follow.

6. Responsible for the security profile of the organisation's self-built services, including any code which we publish or share.

7. Support product teams to make security choices within their services.

8. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of laws, best practices and emerging trends/developments in areas of specialism and communicate and influence the organisation in order to improve its outcomes.

9. Represent the organisation on national and international external consortium groups and boards and engage effectively in appropriate external networks, ensuring the organisation can anticipate and respond to new Information and Cyber Security challenges and threats.

**Knowledge**

**Essential**
- Expert knowledge of adopting business-value focussed best practice security methodology/standards (including standards such as ISO/IEC 27001 and Cyber Essentials)
- Deep knowledge of using information and security legislation to enable business outcomes (e.g., GDPR, FOI, PCIDSS)
- Deep knowledge of modern technology security practices around services, infrastructure, hosting and platforms
- Deep knowledge of open-source technology
- Deep knowledge of modern software and software development practice, including the various options around self-built, low-code and outsourced services
- Knowledge of devops/secops practices and culture and associated methods
- Extensive security tool monitoring experience - Tuning, Identifying, automating responses, detect and respond to security threats.
- Monitoring and reporting, ensuring the environment is regularly and comprehensively monitored, concerns and risks mitigated, regular and adhoc reports produced as required.
- In depth knowledge of Azure security service tools and best practices.
- Security frameworks: NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, SOC2, PCI-DSS and Cyber Essentials.
- Identify and assess security risk, analyse data, develop and implement security strategies to protect the organisations infrastructure and data.

- Ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical outcomes, people and tools; able to turn business outcomes into technical design.
- Ability to review a service or services and identify the risks and vulnerabilities associated with it; ability to plan to mitigate these, to recommend and seethrough changes.
- Ability to design secure systems to meet specific needs; ability to understand trade-offs in technical choices, and work with others to build whole systems.
- Ability to make and justify complex and high-impact technical, clearly explaining reasoning. Ability to persuade sceptics of your reasoning.
- Ability to strongly influence technology strategy, design patterns, policies and behaviour, role modelling each yourself.
- Ability to understand and act on technology trends and movements sensibly.
- Ability to select appropriate technologies, including where services are not owned by us, influencing suppliers.
- Ability to direct technology work across multiple cross-functional teams where needed.
- Ability to keep commercial considerations in mind when taking actions or making decisions.
- Ability to manage high stakeholder expectations and explain the trade-offs between security and accessibility, always making sure our services are user centred.
