Applications are invited for our clinical fellow working within the clinical skills team. This post enables the post holder to develop skills in relation to teaching and learning whilst supporting junior doctors, medical students, and physician associates in the clinical environment and classroom.

This role will suit a doctor with relevant NHS experience to enable them to support doctors and students in training. Our current fellow, now returning to a competitive medical training programme, has described the role as being uniquely flexible. The role offers a broad range of opportunities to develop skills and interests for the future. whilst supporting a range of medical learners.

The working week will be spent within clinical skills, working closely with the clinical educators, participating in, and developing teaching and learning opportunities for medical learners. There are opportunities to continue to work clinically, either through a job sharing arrangement or through the medical bank.

The post offers opportunities for post foundation doctors to develop skills and knowledge in education and training, develop relationships across multi-professional teams, and work with a team to support the development of junior doctors and students across the trust. It will provide insight to the doctor into how the hospital provides educational support and you will gain exposure to senior leaders and their work.

The purpose of a medically qualified clinical educator is to offer unique insights to the process of medical training and provide near peer support to junior learners. Your medical knowledge will be valued within a multi-disciplinary team of education professionals.

Our learners range from qualified doctors training within the Yorkshire deanery, locally employed international medical graduates, medical students from the University of Leeds, and the University of Bradford’s Physician Associates trainees. Other professionals learning within the trust include ACPs, nurses, and AHPs, providing a rich mix of learners to interact with.

The hospital is situated between Keighley and Skipton near to the villages of Steeton and Eastburn. It is reachable via car from Leeds and Manchester. The closest train station in Steeton and Silsden is 1.2 miles from the hospital and on the Skipton
- Leeds line. Train to Leeds approx. 35 minutes, train to Skipton approx. 15 minutes. Onsite accommodation is available either medium or short term, for an additional fee. It is widely regarded as a friendly place to work. It is associated with the Universities of Leeds and Bradford from which it hosts students on placements throughout the academic year. There is a welcoming Doctor’s Mess with recently refurbished facilities and an active social calendar.

Normal working hours will be 8.00 am to 4.00 pm Monday
- Friday and the principle focus of your work will be within the Clinical Skills and Resuscitation team. This will involve supporting the team with ongoing projects, attending meetings with and as a representative of the Clinical Skills team, and developing new materials and approaches for learning. You will be encouraged to scope out Quality Improvement opportunities and supported to implement change.

Your role will include, but is not limited to
- Assisting with and developing classroom based teaching for medical students in years 3 to 5, Physician Associate Trainees, and junior doctors

Assisting with and developing classroom based simulation teaching for 5 th year medical students

Providing ward based teaching, including at the elbow support and educational ‘diagnostics’ to create bespoke packages of support

Being a named near peer supporter for Foundation Year One trainees

Providing enhanced induction and support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs), including pre-employment contact, educational diagnostics using the deanery and local assessment forms, and social prescribing to help settlement in the UK

Assisting the trust Simulation and Human Factors lead with in situ simulation

Ward walking - to provide ad-hoc educational and pastoral support to medical learners

Assist with development and provision of enhanced educational suppo
