**Job Summary**

The role of the Environmental Manager is to ensure Maximus UK fulfils its environmental legal obligations, maintains its current ISO 14001 Environmental Accreditation and to meet the new Cabinet Office procurement policy requirement where suppliers mustnow evidence their commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 - This has a direct impact on future bids (FAS). As part of assessing a supplier’s technical and professional ability, In-Scope Organisations now need to include, as a selection criterion, a CarbonReduction Plan confirming the supplier’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 in the UK and setting out the environmental management measures that they have in place and which will be in effect and utilised during the performance of the contract.

**Essential Job Duties**
- Develop, lead and co-ordinate, the execution of the Maximus UK environmental sustainability strategy and agenda
- Investigate, recommend and deliver relevant approaches to achieving Carbon positive by 2030; maximising cost-saving and commercial advantage opportunities
- Develop and continually improve practical and effective standards, systems and procedures for management of key environmental priorities across our Group
- Work collaboratively to lead, guide, advise and support operational teams in the identification and effective management of environmental risks and opportunities
- Co-ordinate relevant work streams and maintain a clear map of current status and progress
- Support operational teams to ensure maintenance of 14001 accreditations; compliance with external reporting requirements; and continual development of Environmental Management Systems
- Ensure the maintenance of accurate performance information; analysing, reporting and utilising this to drive further performance improvement
- Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies, practices and action plans to ensure corporate sustainable development.
- Co-ordinate all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy to ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
- Audit, analyse and report environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies.
- Dealing with any other tasks, as and when required, appropriate to the position and situation.
- Being able and willing to travel distances as directed to support MAXIUS UK Services businesses across all contracts and geography as required

**Education and Experience Requirements**
- An Environmental Diploma approved by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
- Previous multi-site experience of carbon reduction programmes
- In-depth knowledge of environmental legislation and effective management approaches
- In-depth knowledge and experience of ESOS, carbon
- and waste-reporting requirements and systems
- Knowledge and experience of novel approaches and solutions to environmental performance improvement
- Sound knowledge of management within ISO structures and requirements
- Membership of a relevant professional body, e.g. IEMA Membership

- Leadership skills, with an ability to influence, inspire others to continuously improving performance
- Ability to identify long-term improvement objectives, and develop appropriate strategies and programmes to deliver these
- Effective project management skills, enabling, projects to be managed effectively and delivered on time
- Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels; able to influence and persuade colleagues, improving commitment and buy-in
- Strong analytical skills, able to manage and manipulate performance data, utilising it to drive future improvement
- Excellent report writing skills; ability to present complex information clearly and logically, making strong persuasive arguments to guide decision-making by others
- Ability to plan, prioritise and organise own workload effectively, working to tight and changing deadlines, and prioritising important and urgent activities
- Flexibility to work across all MAXIMUS UK Services Ltd contracts and geography as required.
- Ability to travel independently throughout the UK as required
